Description:

Where are Gondor’s armies?

This mod provides Gondor with their armoured soldiers from the start of the game, but in limited numbers using unit caps, and then increases this unit cap via buildings as you play the campaign. It is ultimately an attempt to make Gondor feel more like Gondor from turn 1, rather than around turn 80 or so when you finally unlock the iconic soldiers.

Below is a list of key changes:
– All unit recruitment is from the city or town building, with recruitment removed from the military buildings with the exception of Gondor armoured cavalry
– The breastplate armoured versions (Sword, Spear and Bow) are removed from the focus/tech tree and are recruitable from cities (all levels) and towns (level 2 and above)
– The first level of Gondor soldiers (ie, the non-breastplate versions) are removed from recruitment and are only garrison units, with the exception of the starting units in Boromir’s army
– AoR implemented for Gondor’s fiefdom units, eg, ithilien rangers are recruited from within Ithilien and Anorien provinces, Dol Amroth units from within Belfalas province.
– Upgrading cities/towns and building military buildings increases the amount of available units (as described in the building effects panel)
– Military buildings have additional effects to make them more worthwhile
– Added a few of the Dol Amroth mercenary units to standard recruitment within Dol Amroth regions
– Citadel guards, Swan Knights, and Ithilien rangers (the elite units for Gondor) take 2 turns to recruit, with a reduction to 1 turn from the advanced military buildings
– Removed fountain guards from any recruitment (these are in my view a very selected unit just for defending Minas Tirith)

Finally, added Aragorn’s unique unit, Ithilien Rangers, and Gondor cavalry units to the bodyguard options for Gondorian generals. Note that these will count towards the maximum available to recruit. Swan Knights were removed from the options.

Compatibility:
Should be compatible with most other mods as long as they do not also change the following TDD original tables:

rom_gon_armed_citizenry_units_to_unit_groups_junctions (used to remove units from garrisons)
rom_gon_building_units_allowed (used to remove unit recruitment from Gondorian buildings)
rom_commander_unit_permissions (used to remove swan knights from bodyguard options for the Gondorian faction)
rom_effect_bonus_value_unit_record_junctions_tables (used to removed some cap increase effects from the Beacons building)
rom_gon_main_units (used to apply unit caps to the Gondorian faction)
rom_technology_unit_upgrades (used to remove the unit upgrade function from the tech tree)
