Description:

KtweaK’s NVG simulates optical degradation by generation in night vision devices.

Features
  • Dynamic: Image clarity adjusts based on where you look.
  • Compatible: Works with any NVG device from any mod.
  • Customizable: Six editable color presets and Magic Words for easy setup.
  • IR illuminators: Built-in IR light with strength varying by generation.

How It Works
  • Dynamically adjusts image clarity based on the brightness of the surface you are looking at and its distance.
  • Darker areas produce a murkier, noisier image, while brighter areas appear crisper.
  • Newer generation devices allow for clearer target identification in low light and at longer distances.

Client side.

Auto-disabled if ACE Nightvision is present.

Originally created for personal use as an alternative when I can’t or don’t want to use ACE.

This is a standalone release of the NVG feature of KtweaK.
If you have KtweaK installed you don’t need this.

Supported Mods

Night vision devices are automatically assigned an NV generation for the following:

  • USP
  • RHS
  • CUP
  • Cold War Rearmed 3
  • ACE (Vector)
  • All relevant CDLCs (Prairie Fire (S.O.G.), Reaction Forces, Expeditionary Forces, Global Mobilization, CSLA)
  • Any mod that adds ACE config entries to their night vision devices

Default keybinds
Toggle NVG IR Light:
Alt + J

You can change those keybinds by going to:
Options > Controls > Configure Addons (in the lower part of the controls window) > KtweaK – NVG (select it from the ADDON list)

Recommendations

KtweaK’s NVG already includes infra red (IR) lights for NVGs, but they are only useful for CQB and basic navigation. Any mod that adds rifle mounted IR illuminators will work great with this system. Such as:

Q & A

Q: Why is everything so dark now?
A: This system uses realistic light sampling (see How It Works). To compensate, use the built-in NVG illuminator or IR illuminators from mods like ITN or BettIR. You can also switch to Basic NV Mode in settings, which provides a screen clarity closer to vanilla NV.

Q: How is this different from ACE Nightvision?
A: KtweaK’s NVG adjusts clarity based the brightness in the area you are looking at, while ACE applies effects based on ambient conditions and manual settings. KtweaK also features generation-based IR illuminators. ACE adds an overlay with border patterns. Both emulate NVG generation, but take different approaches.

Q: Is this compatible with ACE Nightvision?
A: No. Both systems control the same visual effects and conflict. An experimental "Override ACE Nightvision" setting exists for those who want to try forcing them to work together, but expect visual jank. If you want a clean experience, delete or move to a separate directory the ACE Nightvision pbo.

Q: What are Magic Words?
A: Type nvg, helmet, binoc, scope or vehicle instead of class names, separated by commas. The mod converts them when you accept the changes. Example: write nvg in the White Phosphor field to change your current NVG to white phosphor.

Q: Why can’t I change my NVG settings?
A: Because NV Mode is set to Full or Basic. Either change the NV Mode to Manual, or use Magic Words to override specific devices.

Q: What do settings do?
A: Every setting has a tooltip with extensive information. Hover your mouse pointer over any setting name to see what it does.

Q: Does this work in multiplayer?
A: Yes, it’s fully multiplayer compatible. Effects and IR lights are client-side, so players must have the mod installed to see them. The server can optionally load the mod to enforce CBA settings, but it doesn’t render visuals.
