Tidy Storage automatically organizes items in your storage buildings every time something is added. Items in linked storage groups are sorted together across all buildings in the group.
Whenever an item is placed in a storage building (shelves, containers, etc.), the mod sorts everything inside. Choose how sorting behaves in Mod Settings:
- Instant — items rearrange immediately when placed
- Instant-batched (default) — same result, spread over time for large storages or lower-end PCs
- Hauling — pawns physically carry items to sort them. Immersive: one pawn locks the storage and executes the full sort plan sequentially
Items are organized by multiple criteria:
- Category — apparel, ranged weapons, melee weapons, shells, medicine, drugs, food, other
- Type — identical items grouped together
- Quality — best items first (Legendary > Masterwork > … > Awful)
- Material — consistent ordering within same type and quality
Designed to work alongside Even Storage. When distribution is active on a storage group, Tidy Storage waits for it to finish, then sorts within each building. When distribution is toggled off, Tidy Storage re-sorts the group automatically.
- If an item can’t be placed during sorting, it’s forced to the nearest valid location — no item is ever silently lost
- Post-sort verification detects mismatches between items picked up and items placed back
- Requires: Harmony
- Safe to add or remove mid-save
- Works with all vanilla storage buildings and most modded ones
- Note on visual order — some modded storage buildings define their cell positions in a non-intuitive layout. Items will be correctly sorted when inspecting the container, but may appear visually scrambled in the world view depending on how the storage mod maps its cells
"Does this mod have any UI or gizmos?"
Only a settings panel (Options → Mods → Tidy Storage) to choose the sorting mode. No in-game buttons or overlays.
"Is this performance-friendly?"
Yes. Sorting only runs when an item enters a storage, not on a timer. The instant-batched mode spreads the work over time to avoid lag spikes. Hauling mode has zero teleporting — pawns do the physical work.
