Firing Arc 360 (7.0.2)
Did you miss the era of Rome 1 when your missile units didn’t wait to be facing their enemies in order to react and actually start shooting at them ? Look no further, this mod will bring exactly what you need. As I thought it was unfortunate that idling units didn’t behave more autonomously when it came to target acquisition, I modified every units’ firing arc in order to make them target enemy units whenever they were close enough. The men will individually orientate themselves in the direction of the enemy without disrupting the formation or losing time moving around, and shoot.
(unfortunately, unlike in the other games I have tried, if a unit is given the order to shoot at an enemy unit, whether it is moving or not, it seems to make the entities move anyway sometimes. I do not know how to make it not happen (aside from a mod allowing the player to block the unit) and why it happens, it seems to be that the unit will move to face the direction in which the entities were before. For an example, if they face south, but by themselves shoot at an enemy east, and you ask them to shoot an enemy north, they will move to make the whole unit face east, then the entities will orientate themselves to shoot north. In Pharaoh, it seems to happen only when the order is given while the entities are still moving, giving a better result when it matters the most, while standing still. If someone knows how to change the unit behaviour, I’d be glad to take advices. In the meanwhile, a mod such as "Hold Position" is a workaround.)
I did not test every units, but none that I have tested so far seemed to behave weirdly (such as arms and bows clipping and impossible firing stances). One issue could arise with the units which have the "fire while moving" ability, if they are supposed to be able to shoot while moving, but only in a certain direction, they are now able to shoot in every direction without re-orienting, changing the way the unit functions. I do not think this is an issue, but I would understand if it is for many people, and would correct the problematic units indicated in feedbacks. Something which can be a problem as well, is the firing range indicators are now all a circle, they are now a bit harder to read, but I do not know how to fix that, and I don’t think it will have that big of an impact.
All I did was modify the "firing arc close" column in the "battle_entity_tables", puting "360" in every cell. It should not have a conflict with most mods, unless you have an other mod that works on the battle_entity_tables, but I cannot guarantee nothing wrong will happen. It should be pretty easy to modify to one’s taste using RPFM. It should not need a new save, neither be needed for a save to load.
