Description:

Inspired by Henry IV’s march into Italy and his historical confrontation with the Pope, I created this mod, allowing players to challenge excommunication through force.

Mod Features

Challenge Excommunication
If the player has the “Excommunicated” trait and holds a king-tier title or higher (configurable in game rules), they can choose in decision bar “Challenge Excommunication.”
This grants a special casus belli against the Pope. After declaring war, other rulers of the same faith—especially those with zealot traits—may join the war (also configurable in game rules).

War Outcomes

Victory:
Force the Pope to lift your excommunication, or
Install an Antipope

Defeat:
The player suffers appropriate penalties.

Papal Territory & War Objectives
If the Pope holds no land, the war target becomes the highest liege of the Pope’s location (revealed to the player when choosing the action).
The defender may choose to:
Refuse involvement and abandon the Pope, or
Honor their duty and defend the Papacy.
If the Pope is located within the player’s realm, the player may directly launch a raid on the Pope without declaring formal war.
Invasion of Excommunication

This is a unique and more aggressive casus belli.

On victory, the player can take all occupied territory belonging to the enemy ruler.
However, this action is considered an illegitimate invasion by fellow believers, which may trigger additional participants to join the war.
Failure results in harsher consequences.
Antipope System

After completing the objective, the player may install a new Pope.
The Antipope will always have 100 opinion of the player.
The player can never be excommunicated again.
All requests from the player are automatically accepted, including:
Requests to excommunicate others
Claims and territorial demands
