Description:

Quickly evaluate map seeds in Farthest Frontier based on resources and terrain, so you can skip bad starts and find good ones fast.

What It Does

When you generate a new map (or Reroll/Restart Map), the scanner runs automatically and shows you a report. It checks:

  • Peak terrain fertility found within the radius
  • Peak Environment Fertility Factor (EFF) anywhere on the whole map
  • Average underground water availability within the radius
  • Number of lakes (all sizes) and large lakes within the radius
  • Nearby mineral deposits (gold, iron, coal, clay, sand) within a configurable radius from the map centre
  • Infinite/deep deposits both nearby and across the whole map

Each check is compared against your thresholds and marked OK, FAIL, or SKIP. At the end, you get a simple PASS or FAIL verdict in an in-game panel (press H to dismiss). Results are also written to a text file so you can compare seeds later without loading them one by one.

How to use it
  1. Choose your map criteria in the settings.
  2. Start a new map (or Reroll/Restart Map). The scanner runs automatically.
  3. An in-game panel appears showing the full report and a PASS or FAIL verdict.

Configuration

The easiest way to configure this mod is with the companion ModSettingsManager mod. Install it and press F8 in-game to configure all options. Changes take effect on the next new map generation.

Enable/Disable Scanning

The scanner only runs on new map generation, never on saved games, so you can safely leave it enabled at all times, or disable if preferred. It can be toggled on and off at any time.

Scan Thresholds

Search Radius
Radius in game units from the map centre used for all Nearby checks. Around 500 covers most early expansion range. Around 200 is closer to your immediate starting area.

Nearby Min Peak Fertility
Highest individual soil tile fertility (0 to 100) found within the radius. 70+ means there is at least one patch of land good enough to farm immediately.

Nearby Min Underground Water
Minimum average underground water (0 to 100) within the radius. Around 52 is a solid baseline.

Nearby Min Lakes
Minimum number of lake bodies (ponds, small, and large lakes) within the radius.

Nearby Min Large Lakes
Minimum number of large lake bodies (roughly 60,000+ m²) within the radius. Defaults to 0 (skipped).

Whole Map Min EFF
Highest Environment Fertility Factor value found anywhere on the map (0 to 100). EFF never changes after a map is generated and controls how well your fields respond to compost, clover, and livestock grazing.

Nearby Min (Normal Deposits)
Minimum number of finite deposits within the radius.

Nearby Min (Infinite Deposits)
Minimum number of infinite deposits within the radius. Defaults to 0 (skipped). Increase this if you want guaranteed long-term resources near your start.

Whole Map Min (Infinite Deposits)
Minimum number of infinite deposits anywhere on the map. Most maps have some, so higher values help filter out weaker seeds.

Set to 0 to skip any of these.

Write Results File
When enabled, each scan result is appended to a text file for later comparison. Useful if you want a record of seeds you’ve tested.

Results File

Each scan appends a timestamped report to:

SteamsteamappscommonFarthest FrontierFarthest Frontier (Mono)UserDataSeedScannerResults.txt

Open this file to compare multiple seeds or to find a seed you tested earlier.
