Description:
General info:

Better Sápmi & Karelia is a small mod that improves the northern European nomadic mechanics in Crusader Kings III, fixing issues with the Sami extra nomadic region game rule (as well as Karelian clothing).

Key Changes:

Sami nomadic game rule split into two separate game rules
The vanilla game lumped Karelians and Bjarmians together with the Sami under one nomadic game rule, despite both being historically mostly sedentary peoples. The Bjarmians were explicitly described as sedentary in the 9th century account of Ohthere, and the Karelians lived much more like Finns than like nomadic reindeer herders. These are now two separate toggles.

New Sami Herder option
As an alternative, the Sami can now be set to Herder government instead, saving both performance (since herders don’t do much mechanically in the game) and preventing the Sami from taking over the world as nomadic warlords like the Mongols.

Fixed Norse rulers turning nomadic in northern Scandinavia
A bug or oversight in the vanilla game caused the player character to be converted to nomadic government regardless of culture when starting in northern Scandinavia with the Extra Nomadic Region rule turned on. This mod fixes that by making conversions purely culture-based.

Karelian clothing changed to Finnish instead of Sami (Arctic Attire)
Karelians were culturally closer to Finns and Estonians than to the Sami, and this is now reflected in their clothing.

Compatibility:
Should be compatible with most other mods.
The Khans of the Steppe DLC is required for the new game rules and Arctic Attire for the Karelian clothing fix. You don’t need to own both DLCs for the mod to work — one is enough for its specific fix.
The mod currently supports English and German.
