[1.13] Anno 1836 fixed
DISCLAIMER:I am not a native English speaker, so please let me know if you find any grammar or spelling mistakes.
This is a fork of the Anno 1836 map mod, aimed at fixing some obvious map errors and adding several new features.
The following is the description of the original mod:
This mod seeks to create a new base map which better reflects the political and cultural world at the start of the game, where borders are not lines drawn on the map, but reflect actual on-the-ground control. As such, large parts of the map have been decentralised and province borders redrawn.
We are releasing the mod right now as an open beta. While care has been taken to ensure everything works, there will probably be bugs and other unintended behaviour. Please post suggestions for improvements and corrections in one of the following forums:

We’ll let the screenshots speak for themselves, but here is a brief overview of what this mod contains:
Main features:
- A crusade against colonial era borders; no longer are the peoples of Africa confined to arbitrarily drawn borders 100 years after the game’s start, but instead are represented closer to their historical homelands. Modern borders still exist on the map and as you start your conquest and colonisation they will reappear, allowing you to be the true imperialist you are. At the start of the game, however, they do not yet exist;
- Some border situations can be changed or the map simplified through Game Rules.
- Each state has its own unique resource setup, enhancing flavour and making each state more valuable in its own right. A conscious effort was made to limit the number of different buildings per state to 4 agricultural and 4 resource buildings to improve performance, though a large number of states do have more;
- Numerous rivers and other geographical features have been added to the map; the Grand Canal now flows from Beijing to Nanjing, the Sudd forms a formidable barrier separating Egypt from sub-Saharan Africa, and the Amazon is the vast system of rivers it should be. Coastlines and lakes have seen numerous adjustments to be more accurate;
- Iron, lead, sulfur and coal are now discoverable resources, and large amounts of them have been set as undiscovered. Europe, North America, China, Japan and Korea are pretty well endowed with discovered resources, while the rest of the world is not. Happy hunting.
- Copper has been added as a (discoverable) good and is used for a number of applications, most notably late-game electricity production, radios, and telephones.
- Indian Removal was a horrible experience and you will get to share in it through around 25 events as you visually see the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Creek and Seminole removed westward;
- Montenegro now has a proper flag;
- (Experimental) A decision to change country names.
Compatibility:
- This mod is designed for use with the latest version of Victoria 3 (currently 1.13) and all released DLCs. The DLCs are required for this mod to work; it will not function on a base installation of Victoria 3 without the DLCs activated.
- Any mod which makes changes to the map setup or adds new goods is likely to be incompatible. I hope to release compatibility patches for popular mods soon.
- Any mod which does not modify the map or goods is probably compatible, though this may vary on a case-by-case basis and could result in odd behaviour.
- Hub placement is optimised for the Miniature World by Cepherion. Other mods which shrink the size of map assets will also work. Vanilla works too, but hub placement may not be ideal.
Mods which are incompatible and for which a compatibility patch is unlikely:
- Victorian Flavor Mod — the changes to the map they made make this virtually impossible.
Credits:
- Crownsteler for the original Anno 1836 mod, which served as the basis for this fork.
- The author of the new Anno 1836 map mod (also named Crownsteler, different person) for the version adaptation work.
- OHGamer for the many contributions he made, and most importantly, for motivating me to keep working and bring it to release.
- ECCHI for the portrait of Emerson, Don Carlos and a few others.
- Norton’s Flavor Mod for a little bit of content for the American conquest of California.
- Australia & New Zealand Flavor Pack for use of the Australia Map as the basis for Anno 1836.
Known issues:
- The economy might be a bit wonky due to the changed resource setup and the addition of copper. Feedback is much appreciated.
- I was unable to edit the placement of trees and other such assets on the map. This means there will be trees in places they shouldn’t be (such as on rivers, in lakes and on the seas). An update will come soonish as I have now figured out the cause.
- I’ve added around 60 new states to the map and quite a few countries. This will impact performance, though as large parts of the world are now decentralised and resources have been consolidated, the impact is not that severe (though I do have a pretty hefty rig).
- The Colossus of the South DLC might not work properly. I did adjust the code so it should work, but I didn’t have time to test it thoroughly. Specifically, I think the Acre dispute might be broken.
- A state might be missing a resource you feel it needs. Know that I am probably aware of that, but I made a conscious decision to remove it to help performance. If you feel the missing resource had real significance for the game’s time period, let me know and I’ll see how we can accommodate it.
- A huge rectangular body of water appears in the bottom-right corner of the Great Lakes region. I don’t know how to fix it yet — any suggestions are welcome.
