More Realistic Water [Visual]
This is another proof of concept mod, to see what i can do for a more realistic look of the waters, seas and oceans, as i find the current brighter water colour and very large waves unsatisfactory.
It is created in the same notion as my other mod Narrow Coastlines in that they can hopefully help bring a little more of a grander scale, and real world feel to the Eu5 map, which i think it in it’s basis is very suited for.
Currently it changes in large parts:
– The colour of the water to one more based on satelite and higher angle arial photos
– Does the same with the flat map (if you select the "brown" flat map)
– The colours of the sea-borders
– Reduced scale and speed of waves
– Removes the transition effect on the water between the flat map and 3d map when zooming in and out, for a more smooth transition.
I have tried to make the map with compatiblity in mind, when it comes to other map mods. So one may combine this with any of the other visual map mods, and should have it work (in theory). Though the shader ones can and will potentially change the overall look of the ocean, but if you like that combination then go for it.
Overall, mix and match it between flat map modes and mods to how you like it!
Here are some tested map mods:
Imperial Papermap
Nova Orbis Tablula – Papermap Mod
CK3 Style Map
(Note: you wont be able to get the white flat map sea of the CK3 mod, as both him and me use the "Brown flat map" as our custom coloured map for the mod)
– Its not iron-man compatible.
– It’s purely visual, so it’s save game compatible.
In order to activate the darker flat map in this mod, you have to in-game change to the "brown" map mode under Settings -> Map -> Flat map water colour -> Brown
I chose the "Brown" flat map option for my darker blue flat map colour as it is the one least used by most other map modds, as they usually tie the main look to the "blue" mode. Therefore to stay more compatible and allow people cto pick if they want to use my mods darker flat map mode or the main flat map colour of the mod or vanilla with "blue".
As far as i know, we’re not able to create a 3rd option in the map mode settings, but if someone knows how then i’d love to know, if it means making the mod even more compatible.
And of course use best practice of placing this mod under the other graphical map mods for it’s changes to be prioritized.
