Description:
Social Relations Expanded (SRE) – Rework
Currently maintained for CK3 1.19.*

Relationships should matter.

This is a fan-maintained rework of Social Relations Expanded (SRE), focused on making friendships, rivalries, family bonds, lovers, soulmates and social connections feel more meaningful in everyday gameplay.

The goal of this version is not to replace the original idea, but to keep its spirit alive on newer CK3 versions while making the core systems more stable and playable.

Work in Progress

This is a working rework, but it should still be considered a work in progress.

The goal is to keep Social Relations Expanded playable and stable on current CK3 versions while gradually improving polish, balance and long-term stability.

Feedback, bug reports and screenshots are very welcome.

Credits

Original mod & concept: Big Uncle
Full credit for the original concept, systems and foundation goes to Big Uncle and the original Social Relations Expanded work.

1.18 continuous work: Clem
Special thanks to Clem for the continuous work and update for CK3 1.18, which helped keep SRE alive for later versions.

Rework & maintenance: Elchman69
This rework updates, stabilizes and maintains the core systems for current CK3 versions.

I do not claim ownership of the original mod, name, concept or design.
If the original author or previous maintainers want this version removed, renamed, credited differently or changed, I will respect that request.

This rebuild would not exist without the original SRE mod and the community work that kept it alive.

What this mod does

Social Relations Expanded makes personal relationships matter beyond the two characters directly involved.

Your actions can now affect:

  • family members
  • close family
  • extended family
  • friends
  • best friends
  • lovers
  • soulmates
  • rivals
  • nemeses
  • family friends

In short:

If you hurt someone, the people close to them may remember it.
If you help someone, their family and friends may respect you for it.

Core Features

Mutual Acquaintances

Friends of friends, rivals of rivals, and enemies of your close relations can affect opinion.

Examples:

  • A common rival can bring characters closer together.
  • Hurting someone’s friend can damage your reputation with them.
  • Being close to a powerful family can matter politically.

Family Friends

Characters who build strong ties with several members of a family may become considered a Family Friend.

This creates a more organic sense of household loyalty, long-term friendship and social belonging.

More Meaningful Imprisonment

Imprisonment now has wider social consequences.

Characters may react if you imprison:

  • their close family
  • their extended family
  • their friend
  • their best friend
  • their lover
  • their soulmate
  • their rival
  • their nemesis

Rivals may approve.
Loved ones may hate you for it.

Prison, Dungeon and House Arrest Reactions

This rework includes working reactions for:

  • imprisonment
  • release from prison
  • ransom
  • execution
  • torture
  • moving prisoners to the dungeon
  • moving prisoners to house arrest

Social Standing

Characters can develop a wider social reputation based on their relationships and how others perceive them.

This includes social connection, popularity, friends in high places, hostile reputations and slanders from rivals.

Feature Plans

Planned future work includes:

  • ✓ Rescue and Vengeance Rework
A separate rework of Rescue and Vengeance, focused on private rescue wars, private revenge wars and deeper reactions from family, friends, lovers, soulmates and family friends.
  • □ Inheritable Relations Rework
A separate rework of Inheritable Relations, focused on inherited friendships, rivalries, grudges and social memory between heirs and the relations of their predecessors.
  • □ Optional cross-mod support
The goal is to keep these mods separate, but allow their features to interact when they are used together.
  • □ New relationship-focused systems
Ideas such as blood debts, inherited grudges, blood-stained letters, rescue negotiations and other social consequence systems may be explored in future updates or separate companion mods.
  • □ More polish and balancing
Ongoing tuning of opinion modifiers, prison reactions, social consequences and localization.

Nothing listed here is guaranteed, but these are the areas I would like to explore next.

Optional Companion Mod

If you are interested in private rescue and revenge wars, you may also want to check out:

Rescue & Vengeance is a separate rework focused on private rescue wars, private revenge wars and personal consequences for captivity, murder and vengeance.

Both mods can be used separately.

When used together, optional cross-mod features may become available, such as Blood-Stained Letters and recognition of friends of the family.

Languages

  • English
  • German

Some inherited localization from the original mod may still exist in additional languages depending on the files present in the package.

Final Note

This rework exists because Social Relations Expanded is one of those mods that makes CK3 feel more alive.

Families should remember.
Friends should care.
Rivals should celebrate your misfortune.
And your choices should echo through the people around you.
