Description:
Nose Down

Ever noticed how your submarine dives completely flat? No dramatic nose-down angle, no sense of weight and depth – just a boat that slowly sinks like an elevator.

This mod fixes that.

Real submarines weren’t like that. When a Type VII boat dove, the crew felt the floor tilt under their feet. Nose down, engines pushing forward and down at the same time. On a crash dive it was steep enough to send unsecured gear sliding across the compartment.

It’s one of the most frequently requested features across the UBOAT forums and discussions – and it’s been missing since launch.

What changes
  • Your submarine tilts nose-down when diving, nose-up when surfacing
  • The angle builds up gradually – ballast tanks don’t flood instantly
  • Pitch holds throughout the entire maneuver, not just the first few seconds
  • Crash dive looks and feels genuinely urgent
  • Crew members run to the bow on crash dive – and now the boat actually tilts to match
  • First-person view follows both pitch and roll
  • Hanging objects physically swing toward the bow

Historical basis
  • 5–7° at the surface — the hard limit before propellers break the waterline.
  • ~15° once fully submerged during a normal dive.
  • up to 30° during crash dives – beyond that, battery acid could spill.

This mod uses 15° normal / 27° crash dive. Pitch only activates once the deck is 6m underwater – near the surface, wave physics make earlier pitch unstable.

Configuration

On first launch the mod creates nose-down-config.json in your UBOAT data folder (%AppData%..LocalLowDeep Water StudioUBOAT). Edit it with any text editor:

{ "maxPitchNormal": 15.0, "maxPitchCrash": 27.0, "enableFPPTilt": true }

Changes take effect on the next game launch.

Please use angles that are too different or extreme with caution – and save your game before edits!

Common questions

Why the side camera (compartment view) doesn’t tilt?
It’s intentional. That camera uses a separate rendering system for the interior that would require significantly more invasive changes to tilt correctly. Since it’s a tactical management view rather than an immersion view, it was left as-is to avoid breaking compartment rendering.

Water in flooded compartments doesn’t slosh toward the bow.
The game simulates flooding as fill levels, not real fluid. The water surface stays physically horizontal relative to the world – which is actually correct behavior. Real water seeks its own level regardless of the hull angle around it.

My other mods

No AutoAlarm – Disable the automatic alarm. Configure exactly when your crew sounds general quarters: on damage, on aircraft contact, or never.
Torpedo Wake Detection – Enemy ships now react to steam torpedo wakes. Convoys panic, escorts search. Electric torpedoes remain silent.
