Description:
Wales Flavour Pack

Three peoples. One land. One future.

The princes of Wales cling to their traditions. The Saxons press from the east. Norse Jarls carve new shores wherever their longships land. What will become of Wales — Dyfodol Cymru — is yours to decide.

The Struggle — Dyfodol Cymru

A full struggle covers the duchies of Gwynedd, Powys, and Deheubarth from 867 onward, unfolding across three phases:

  • Rhaniad — Division — Wales is fragmented. Welsh princes distrust one another as much as they distrust their enemies.
  • Argyfwng — Crisis — Norse raids intensify. Saxon pressure mounts. Old alliances crack.
  • Undod — Unity — A path forward emerges — but toward whose vision of Wales?

Three exclusive endings determine the fate of the land:

  • Cymru Rydd — A Welsh Christian prince unites the three duchies and declares Wales free.
  • Tywysog dan Goron — A Saxon lord brings Wales under his crown.
  • Valland — A Norse Jarl turns Wales into a Viking realm.

Content

Flavor Events
Nine narrative events spread across all three phases — three per phase — each with meaningful mechanical consequences, dynamic portraits, and choices that define your character’s legacy.

Pengwern — The Kingdom Remembered
A two-decision chain available to Welsh rulers who hold Powys. Pengwern was a sub-Roman kingdom destroyed by the Saxons in the seventh century — its fall immortalised in the Canu Heledd, the lament of a sister who watched the hall burn.

  • Cofio Pengwern — Invite a bard to court and hear the old verses. A first step: remembrance.
  • Adfer Pengwern — Hold Powys and Shropshire, reach Illustrious renown, and proclaim the kingdom restored. Once in a lifetime.

Completing the chain creates the titular Kingdom of Pengwern with its own dynasty coat of arms — the eagle and the wyvern — and awards the nickname Adferwr Pengwern, Restorer of Pengwern.

Cyfraith Hywel — The Laws of Hywel Dda
A major standalone decision available to any Welsh ruler who rises to prominence. Codify the ancient laws of Wales in one of three forms:

  • Heddwch (Peace) — Legitimacy, clemency, and the trust of your vassals
  • Nerth (Strength) — Levies, military edge, and the respect of warriors
  • Gwlad (Land) — Cultural prestige, piety, and the memory of the bards

Enacting the laws creates the illustrious artifact Llyfr Cyfraith and unlocks a chain of five living law events that fire over the years that follow.

Cŵn Annwn
A rare supernatural event drawn from Welsh mythology. Not every ruler will see it.

Maen Coffa
A once-per-lifetime decision to raise a standing stone monument in your realm.

The Arthurian Legend — Caledfwlch, Mab Darogan, Teyrnas Prydein
A three-tier progression for Welsh rulers. The prophecy does not end with finding the sword.

  • Caledfwlch — A wandering bard arrives and sings of a sword sleeping beneath Welsh waters. Welsh rulers who have reached Illustrious prestige may undertake the quest. Those who succeed receive the illustrious artifact Caledfwlch and the trait Etifedd Arthur — Heir of Arthur. Each generation must prove itself worthy anew.
  • Mab Darogan — The Son of Prophecy — The Armes Prydein Vawr named one who would come: heir of the sword, lord of the three cantrefi, the one the island was waiting for. Welsh rulers who hold Gwynedd, Powys, and Deheubarth and have reached Exalted renown may proclaim themselves Mab Darogan. Three paths define the proclamation — the Burden, the Mandate, or the Pact — each with its own mechanical identity and a permanent dynasty modifier that marks every member of your house.
  • Teyrnas Prydein — The Kingdom of Britain — Hold England and Wales, bear the Mab Darogan trait, and the empire of Prydein can be proclaimed — the first Brythonic crown over the whole island in three centuries. Two paths: the dynastic glory of your house, or the sacred fulfilment of a three-century-old charge.

Carrying the Mab Darogan trait brings living prophecy events across the years that follow: a bard who carries the old verse, a vision of the ancient kings, a warrior from the highlands who heard the prophecy and came to pledge his sword.

20+ Modifiers
Character and county modifiers with distinct mechanical identities — not just numbers, but archetypes: the warrior, the lawgiver, the defender of the faith.
