Tired of carefully raising a child, only to have them grow up into a pyromaniac, a fragile pawn, or a drug fascination addict when a growth moment hits?
This mod reworks child growth so that passions and traits are shaped more by what children actually experience, instead of being driven mostly by random outcomes.
- Earlier development
Children can start walking at age 1, and growth moments are expanded to ages 4, 7, 10, and 13. - Learning tendency system
During each learning stage, children build skill tendencies based on their lived experiences.
Main sources of skill tendencies include:
- Nature running: boosts Plants and Animals tendencies
- Radio talks: boosts Social and Intellectual tendencies
- Floor drawing: boosts Construction and Crafting tendencies
- Reading: skill books boost their related skill tendency, while non-skill books boost Intellectual
- Watching work: boosts tendencies based on the type of work being observed
- Class lessons: boosts tendencies based on the skill actually being taught
- Role model influence: spending time with adults gradually increases the tendency toward that adult’s best skill
You can check a child’s current skill tendencies in the learning record shown below their growth tier.
At each growth moment, children automatically gain more fitting traits and passions based on their accumulated skill tendencies.
- Example: a child with a strong Crafting tendency can gain a minor passion in Crafting, and an existing minor passion can be upgraded into a major passion.
In addition to the automatic result, the growth tier also gives you one extra reward choice:
- Convert it into skill experience
- Gain one extra passion
- Gain one extra trait (requires a matching tendency; higher tiers reduce the requirement)
- Remove one existing trait (requires a high growth tier)
At higher growth tiers, automatically assigned traits will also tend to avoid negative traits.
Big life events can also affect a child’s development:
- Inspirations increase growth tier
- Mental breaks, major illnesses, and lost body parts have a very small chance to cause a dramatic personality shift
In the mod settings, you can view which traits are available at each age stage.
Traits added by other mods are supported automatically, and you can also assign them manually if you prefer.
The mod has good compatibility and can be added mid-save. After being added, children will begin building their tendencies from scratch.
