Campaign Notes Mod
Ever come back to a campaign after a few days and forget your plan? Campaign Notes lets you keep an in-game notebook for your whole campaign — strategy reminders, build orders, "deal with the Chosen Assassin next," whatever you need. It’ll be waiting for you exactly where and when it matters.
Notes are saved per campaign, can be edited right in the game or in a plain text file, and add virtually nothing to your save size.
Commander’s Notes — a general campaign scratchpad, reachable from a button on the Avenger HUD and from the Commander’s Quarters shortcut menu.
Per-facility notes — every facility gets its own note (e.g. "Resistance Ring Notes", "Proving Ground Notes"), opened from a Facility Notes button on the facility screen.
Per-mission notes — jot down a plan for a specific operation. Notes are titled by the operation name and are automatically cleared once the mission is completed, so they never pile up.
Pre-mission reminder — if a mission has a note, it pops up automatically at the Squad Select screen so you don’t forget your plan.
In-mission access — your mission note appears after the intro camera pan (just like a mission briefing), and a Notes button on the tactical HUD lets you re-open it any time. View-only during combat so you can’t fat-finger an edit. It also re-appears if you load a mid-mission save.
Edit outside the game — every note is mirrored to a plain text file you can edit in any text editor:
Edit it while the game is closed and your changes sync back in on load.
Multi-campaign safe — each campaign keeps its own independent notes in its save. The shared external file is stamped to the active campaign so notes never bleed between playthroughs.
With Mod Config Menu installed, you can reposition every part of the UI to fit your layout and resolution:
• Notes panel position and size
• Avenger HUD "Commander’s Notes" button
• Facility screen button — with an optional per-facility position override (pick a facility, set where its button goes)
• LWOTC infiltration screen button
• In-mission (tactical) Notes button
• Required: Community Highlander
• Recommended: Mod Config Menu (needed to reposition the UI)
• Works with vanilla WOTC and Long War of the Chosen (LWOTC).
• Safe to add to an ongoing campaign — notes are created automatically the first time you load.
• Overrides the pause menu (for the Save and Exit notes prompt). Compatible with vanilla, CHL, and LWOTC, which don’t modify it.
6.1 Update
Leave yourself a note before you log off, and the campaign reminds you what you were doing when you come back.
› Next Session Notes — a reminder you write before ending a session. It lives under Commander’s Notes.
› Return Briefing — when you load the save, your Next Session Notes pop up so you can pick your plan back up. Empty note, no pop-up.
› "Don’t show this again unless these notes are changed" — dismiss a briefing you’ve already read and it stays quiet until you actually edit the note.
› Show on Next Load — a checkbox on Commander’s Notes and any Facility note. Tick it to have that note appear once on your next load. It clears itself after showing.
› One combined briefing — Next Session Notes and any flagged reminders show up together in a single Return Briefing instead of a stack of pop-ups.
› Save and Exit asks first — choosing Save and Exit (or Exit to Main Menu in non-Ironman) now gives you a Cancel / Edit Notes / proceed prompt, so you can jot a reminder on your way out. Works in both Ironman and non-Ironman games.
• Reminders now appear whenever you load the save, including loading from inside a running game. Previously they only showed after a full game restart.
• Next Session Notes are written to the notes file the moment you type them, so they survive even if you exit to the main menu without saving the campaign.
• This update adds one base-class override (the pause menu) for the Save and Exit prompt. Vanilla, Community Highlander, and LWOTC don’t touch the pause menu, so it’s conflict-free today. If you run another mod that changes the pause menu, load order decides which wins.
