Better Tavern PATRONS (1.1.1) – Enhanced
Click here for the Legacy version
The list of potential thralls that can show up in your tavern has been completely overhauled; you can now encounter almost EVERY thrall in the game currently (barring boss/unobtainable ones). The chances of getting specific roles (Fighter, Crafter, etc) have been set to specific numbers rather than the vanilla game’s approach of an equal chance to get anything in a certain tier.
As well as all this, the minimum and maximum time they will stay at the tavern has also been reduced so they cycle through more often. Not so often that it’s like a revolving door, but fast enough that if you go spend an hour or two exploring, you should come back to a fresh set of faces.
Tier 1: 15%
Tier 2: 40%
Tier 3: 35%
Tier 4: 10%
Fighter*: 24%
Archer: 24%
Crafter: 35%
Dancer: 10%
Bearer: 5%
Sorcerer: 2%
* There is a 1% chance when getting a Tier 4 Fighter that they will be "Tier 5" instead
There’s a bunch of people in my tavern I can’t hire, why?
TL;DR: It’s a game mechanic, my mod doesn’t make it happen.
The game will spawn "generic" patrons to fill out seating in your tavern to make feel more lively and this mod does not effect how many of them spawn, only the frequency that they arrive and leave. The default ratio is 75% generic/25% hireable patrons but this can be off slightly depending on where you are in the spawn cycle.
Why is nobody showing up for hire when I build my bar?
The minimum time it takes for a hireable thrall to arrive has been increased to 15 minutes (up from 1 second in vanilla) to prevent the cheese of hitting patrons to make them leave and cycling spawns like you’re flipping through a catalogue.
How will I know if these new thralls are any good?
The same way you’ll find out with the current patrons; hire them and find out. A very big tell is that since more "Tier 5" thralls are now available to spawn, if they cost you 1000 gold coins then you can be fairly sure they’re worth the price.
Another way is to search THIS[docs.google.com] table for their name to check their stats.
I highly recommend using Extended Thrall Stats to be able to check the entire array of stats your thralls have.
What the heck are these Tier 5 Fighters about?
There are a number of Fighters that have a combination of different "Tier 5" stat modifiers assigned to them that make them stronger than Tier 4. The Cimmerian Berserker is one of these, as well as the Nordheimer Berserker. It’s mostly reserved for boss enemies but there are obviously a couple that you can have for yourself.
Why do the large thralls shrink when I hire them?
This is a basegame issue that unfortunately can’t be fixed. To put it simply, when these thralls are in the wild they start with a setting that makes them 20% bigger, when they get turned into a player thrall this setting gets changed. If you want to make them tall again, use something like IQoL or Tot!Custom.
Can you add X thrall to the patrons?
I will not be adding any thrall that cannot be knocked out like the Arena Champion since those are not intended to be captured. Otherwise 99.9% of the existing thralls are in there.
How does it work?
The original patron system only has the thralls sorted by tier, so it chooses which tier it wants then chooses a thrall from that list. Because of this, if there are more thralls in a certain faction they are more likely to appear. For example, there are 7 different Black Hand Archer III in the list, but only 1 Lemurian Archer III, which makes it much less likely to appear.
The process is now;
Tier => Role => Faction => Individual Thrall
This setup means you will see a spread of the different factions for every type of thrall and they’ve been weighted so that you’re a little more likely to get thralls in the middle of the stat modifiers spread. Generic Exiles are much less common, so that should lead to a few less people hanging out at your bar in nothing but rags.
Should be compatible with any mod that simply adds extra patrons to the existing list, they will ignore the usual check for the thrall’s job but will have approximately a 0.1% to appear as an individual if they have the default weighting of 1 (there are 1300+ thralls in Tier 1 alone, so it’s better than average)
It will NOT be compatible with any mod that changes the original entries for tavern patrons, so place mine below any that do (which is none AFAIK as of time of writing)
You will have a number of patrons show up who cannot be hired AND THIS IS A BASEGAME MECHANIC MY MOD DOES NOT CHANGE. Go read the FAQ.
