[WOTC] Assault Troopers Standalone
So I was looking for more alien mods to add to my next campaign playthrough and I came across Claus’ ADVENT Assault Troopers mod. The models and animations are awesome but I saw a few comments saying the radiation effect was very strong and I personally didn’t want to add another status effect and the extra items that comes with that to my game.
So I thought I’d make a striped down version of the mod that removes the radiation elements and instead just makes the Assault Troopers a more beefy version of standard troopers with shotguns, grenade launchers, more HP, armour and armour shred capability. I changed the T3 and Captain’s launcher grenade to inflict burning instead of radiation. (The effects are cool looking and I figured radiation does cause burns so that was appropriate while not requiring the need for a whole new vest protection.)
This is a personal mod really but I figured I’d release it in case any one else wants a more chilled, cut down version of the ADVENT Assault Troopers mod.
This mod contains 4 New Advent Enemies, Assault Trooper with Advanced and Elite variants, and the Assault Trooper Captain.
ADVENT Assault Trooper
Assault Troopers are shotgun wielding troopers, they come with light armour plating and utilize a grenade launcher to launch magnetic grenades.
ADVENT Advanced Assault Trooper
The higher force level variant of the Assault Trooper, they’re pretty much the same but can fire laser grenades from their launcher which shred armour.
ADVENT Elite Assault Trooper
Elite Assault Troopers can fire radiation grenades from their launcher which inflict the burning status effect. They have increased mobility. Their shotgun is more accurate at long range, and they exclusively use the rapid fire ability to shoot at you.
ADVENT Assault Trooper Captain
The Assault Trooper Captain can fire radiation grenades from their launcher which inflict the burning status effect. Their shotgun is even more accurate at longer ranges but they lose the rapid fire ability and extra mobility. Like the standard Advent Officer he can also mark your soldiers.
The radiation system has been removed entirely. – All radiation status effects, abilities, damage types, and UI code have been stripped out.
Weapons – The grenade launchers fire standard grenades, they keep the cool visual effects but no longer cause the same status effects. The T1 Magnetic Grenade is a standard explosion. The T2 laser grenade is a standard explosion with armour shred. and the T3/Captain grenade is a standard explosion with 50% chance to inflict the burning status effect.
I have also removed the radiation ammo from their shotguns. I’m in two minds about whether to add incendiary rounds to their shotguns. I’m not sure that it’s necessary but I’ll see how I feel after some play testing.
Unit Stats – Since I removed the radiation effects I made them a bit beefier to make them stand out from regular troopers. I’ve taken care to try to strike a good balance but I still need to play test them in a regular campaign yet so I might tweak them further down the line. Most of their stats are configurable in the .ini files if you want to change them mid game.
T1 Assault Trooper has 2 armour now and 5 HP.
T2 Assault Trooper has 3 armour now and 10 HP.
T3 Assault Trooper has 4 armour now.
Captain Assault Trooper has 5 armour now.
Increasing the captain’s armour might be a mistake. They should be more of a late game spawn anyway so you should have more stuff to deal with armour by that point but we’ll see how it plays when I’ve had a chance to fight them in a regular campaign playthrough. Might change this later.
Other than that, I have tided up the code, removed all the parts that aren’t used any more and I rewrote a few of the localisation entries.
Claus – Full credit to Claus for this mod, it’s a truly fantastic mod, great models, animations and concept in general. I’ve only removed the parts of it that weren’t to my taste and tweaked a couple of small things. I just wanted to add the parts of the mod I did like to my game so this is why I made this mod.
