🌅 May Dawn: A Commonwealth (Poland-Lithuania)
"Because we do not beg for freedom, we fight for it." – Witold Urbanowicz

May Dawn is an alternate history total conversion mod for Victoria 3. It explores a timeline where the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth didn’t just fade away—it fought, bled, and barely held on.

📜 The Lore: A Bitter Independence
The year 1791 changed everything. Unlike our timeline, the Targowica Confederation was crushed, but the victory came at the cost of national unity. For decades, the Commonwealth lived as a fortress state. When Napoleon rose, Poland saw a tool for vengeance.

Through the Napoleonic Wars, the Commonwealth reclaimed Galicia from Austria and Royal Prussia from the Hohenzollerns. But the 1812 march on Moscow ended in the same frozen tragedy. As the Grande Armée collapsed, the Polish Crown Army stood alone.

The Miracle on the Bug & The Treaty of Minsk (1814):
It wasn’t a glorious triumph; it was a massacre. Peasant scythe-men and battered regulars halted the Russian steamroller through sheer exhaustion. The resulting Treaty of Minsk was a humiliation designed to cripple the state:

The Shattered East: The treaty confirmed the borders of the 1st Partition, but pushed the frontier even further west.

The Debt Trap: Poland was saddled with massive war reparations to St. Petersburg, a "price for peace" that continues to drain the treasury in 1836.

Scorched Earth: The borderlands (Kresy) were turned into a militarized, integrated "No-Man’s-Land."

✅ Current Features (What’s in the mod)
The Sovereign Commonwealth:
Playable Poland with its capital in Warsaw custom 1836 borders, standing army, weak but existent industry and laws reflecting reforms form 3rd may constitution.

Demographic Scars:
Reflecting a nation that lost 1/6th of its population in the wars.

A Fragmented Industrial Base:
The Commonwealth possesses only a rudimentary, partially rebuilt industry after decades of warfare and devastation. Early economic gameplay focuses on reconstruction, modernization, and reducing dependence on foreign imports.

European-Model Army:
Although smaller than the armies of the partitioning powers, the Commonwealth’s military is a highly professional and modern fighting force. Built on European military reforms, it does not fall behind its rivals technologically. Superior training, disciplined command structures, and experienced veterans allow the Polish army to stand as an equal on the battlefield despite its limited size.

Capable of matching Prussian standards in morale and battlefield effectiveness

Designed as a defensive elite force rather than a mass conscript army

The "Post-War Ruin" Modifier:

+10% Birth Rate — A desperate demographic recovery

-10% Construction Efficiency — Rebuilding from the ashes is slow

-15% Agricultural Output — The Kresy remain devastated

+50% Armed Forces Political Strength — The military safeguards the state

+10% Army Morale — Veterans of the Bug do not break easily

National Decisions: Reclaiming the Lost Lands:
Special national decisions allow the Commonwealth to pursue the recovery of historic Polish–Lithuanian territories. These decisions unlock diplomatic and military paths toward reclaiming lands lost during the Partitions, granting prestige, political consequences, and escalating tensions with Europe’s great powers

Added new polish dynamic names for cities and states, also corrected already existing.

The Identity Path: Choose between aggressive Polonization of the borderlands or a Federation path to accept Lithuanians, Belarusians, and Ukrainians.

🚧 The Roadmap (Planned Features)
⚔️ Internal Stability & The Nobility
Magnate Purges: The old nobility hates the 1791 reforms. You must purge the reactionary elements or face a military coup/noble rebellion.

The Serfdom Question: Peasantry demands an end to forced labor (Pańszczyzna). Fail to reform, and the countryside burns.

🌍 Ethnic & Frontier Management
The Kresy Revitalization: Special Journals to rebuild the devastated east through mass migration and investment.

🚩 The Grand Vengeance
Dismantling the Partitioners: Unique late-game goals to shatter the Austrian Empire (liberating Czechia, Hungary, and Croatia).
