No Emperor Edition
This mod tries to recreate the combat balance of Rome 2 before the emperor edition. It significantly ups the combat speed, makes moral far more dynamic and rebalances all weapons, hp and shields and makes most units faster. It makes the game significantly more fluid and tactical.
Spears are significantly more deadly, cavalry charges more devastating and AP more common to be found across a variety of melee weapons. Most units lose 10 hp and 1/3 of their shields armour. Idle units will recover their fatigue faster.
You should expect engagements to be significantly faster, as examples:
Legionary cohort mirrors should go from ca 5 minutes to 3.5 minutes
Hoplites mirrors should go from around 10 minutes to 6 minutes
Archers using heavy arrows should expect to inflict more casualties, upwards of 50% more kills
Cavalry charges are much more deadly, esp. against light infantry
Moral penalty for flanking is effectively doubled, so flanked units should be properly punished for it
Is this a perfect replication of pre-Emperor edition balancing? No, units can’t stretch as much, and while weapon, hp and armour are more or less accurate melee infantry units do not get bonus vs infantry and cavalry’s bonus vs infantry is scaled back a bit. Most units also don’t have abilities which they otherwise would have had back in the day like whip and frenzy. I have also not changed any costs, so some of them might be inaccurate such as elephants and high-end cavalry, but overall, most units are fairly accurate to their costs back then. Lastly, I have made assumptions when it comes to unit speed and fatigue, as those stats are not known accurately.
The mod is great for both MP, Historical battles or single player campaign.
