She was once Countess Emmanuelle von Templehof, cousin to Konrad von Carstein and reluctant custodian of an ancient Nehekharan grimoire. Konrad had pressed the tome upon her, neglecting to mention that the Dwarfs of Zhufbar sought the very same book to destroy it.
When the Dwarfs came, they came in force. More than a thousand Dwarfs fell to her defiance, and to the whispered curse that earned her a new name among the besiegers: the Whispering Death. For when she spoke a Dwarf’s name, that warrior would falter and die, as if the grave itself had called him home.
But even the dead cannot hold forever. The throng broke through at last, storming her keep and dragging her from her coffin. They slew her, then bound her spirit with warding runes, sealing her voice in eternal silence.
Years later, Mannfred von Carstein rifled through her tomb, stealing the hidden Book of Nagash from a secret compartment in her coffin and ignoring her spectral outrage. Only years later did the wards finally fail — and the spirit once known as Emmanuelle von Templehof rose again. Now she drifts as Whispering Nell, her voice a weapon of grief and vengeance, her wail carrying the memory of every Dwarf who ever dared speak her name.
Some whisper that her power waxes and wanes with the stones that shaped her fate. Should Castle Templehof fall into your hands, the shattered memories of her death and rebirth stir within her, strengthening the spectral bindings that hold her form together. And if Zhufbar — the hold whose throng slew her and bound her spirit in runes — is finally claimed, the last echoes of that ancient wound break, bleeding their stolen strength back into her.
Rumours spread of a pale figure drifting through the ruins of Templehof, her voice a thin thread of sorrow that kills as surely as any blade. Some claim she is Emmanuelle von Templehof herself — the countess slain when the Dwarfs of Zhufbar stormed her keep in their hunt for a forbidden grimoire. If approached with care, this Whispering Nell may be bound to your service…though her grief and hatred of the Dwarfs burns colder than the grave.
