Tactical Overlay Upgrade (HWRemastered)
This is a simple mod that add an additionnal Tactical Overlay (TO) mode on top of the 3 TAB modes with ships icons but not effects spheres to get a good visibility of ships icons without the cluttering of area-of-effect-spheres.
This mod is for Homeworld Remastered from Homeworld Remastered Collection Edition.
Use this mod for Homeworld 2 Classic : Tactical Overlay Upgrade (HW2Classic).
Use TAB to cycle through TO modes, there is now a 4th mode after the area-of-effect-spheres one that does the same but without the spheres.
Tactical Overlay modes :
- Mode 1 (Vanilla) : No icons at all.
- Mode 2 (Vanilla) : Icons for ships that are far away.
- Mode 3 (Vanilla) : Icons for ships closer aswell as all area effects spheres (such as hyper space module, fire control tower, gravity well generator etc).
- Mode 4 (Added by this mod) : Same as Mode 3 but without the spheres.
When playing with NLIPS off, the option makes ships bigger as you zoom out, it helps with readability but it reduces the realistic feeling of small ships like strikecrafts being dwarfed by capital ships.
The drawback of having NLIPS off is that it can get difficult to have an overview of the battlefield, that’s when TO comes in handy !
But TO mode 2 only draws icons for ships far away and TO mode 3 that draws them closer from the camera as we’d like can be over cluttered end game when there is lot of capital ships with area-of-effect modules with their sphere of influence being shown.
Thanks to the new TO mode 4 this mod introduces, you can get best of both modes : most icons and a clear overview of the battlefield!
This mod should also be compatible with other mods that don’t override TOs.

The code is actually straight forward to be expanded upon thanks to comments from the Remastered lua source code.
