Stiltgrounds Extended

This mod adds seven new types of nonhuman merchants to the bazaar at the Stiltgrounds. Each one of them has a unique population table for which items they sell, their own unique tiles and dialogue, as well as stats, equipment, skills, and mutations.

The inspiration for this mod was the joy I felt anytime I traveled to a new village and, to cite real examples I’ve encountered, the tinker was a dog, or the merchant was a unimax, or the apothecary was a crocodile. Qud is such a strange and wonderful world, and in every playthrough I spend a lot of time at the Six Day Stilt, so I wanted to add some of that color there as well.

New Merchants
  • Barathrumite exile – An urshiib tinker who sells a variety of scrap, books, energy cells, and random artifacts. They can identify, repair, and recharge items.
  • Blacksmith – A goatfolk who forges and sells weapons, shields, and some armor. Their stock has a higher chance of random mods than normal. They can repair items.
  • Consortium affiliate – A cactus who was sent out to sell wares in the desert. It sells an assortment of general merchandise as well as various goods common to the salt dunes. Guaranteed to sell a Six Day Stilt recoiler.
  • Fletcher – A bird who makes and sells arrows. They also sell a few bows as well as a variety of items with the Feathered mod.
  • Liaison – A cat who sells any and all items that raise your faction reputation, including equipment, figurines, and occasionally Schrodinger pages.
  • Scrounger – A dog who digs for things in the ground. They sell a random grab bag of scrap and bones, a few pieces of digging gear, as well as the occasional rare and valuable artifact.
  • Trapper – A fashionable lizard who sells leather, furs, meat, blood, and a small assortment of hunting gear.

Notes
  • Like most vanilla merchants, some of these will be useful to some players and not others, and they’re intended to have a balanced chance of selling rare items. The purpose of the mod is to add some fun variety to the Stiltgrounds rather than to change the game balance in any way.
  • Most of them belong to the Merchants faction, because during testing putting the Liaison in the Cats faction, for example, caused a lot of fights. The exceptions are the Consortium affiliate, who belongs to the Consortium of Phyta, and the Barathrumite exile, who is a Pariah.
  • The scrounger and liaison can be pet, but whether they will allow this is based on your standing with the Merchants faction.
  • They’re given similar stats to the vanilla merchants who work in the Stiltgrounds, with slight variations between them. They all have their own equipment and mutations and are fully functional characters in case someone wanted to recruit them or swap bodies with them.
  • They’re roughly as likely to appear in the Stiltgrounds as most of the vanilla merchants, with each of them having a weight of 4 in the population table.
  • Most of the tiles are fully original work, but the blacksmith and the Barathrumite exile are modifications of the generic goatfolk and urshiib tiles from the vanilla game.
