In 1940, following the defeat of the Allies at Dunkirk and the capture of the BEF, the German Reich launched Operation Sealion. After months of fierce fighting German forces managed to conquer the United Kingdom and the British government fled to Canada. By 1944 the Wehrmacht suffered heavy attrition at the hands of Soviet soldiers in the Urals, thus forcing them to send the occupation forces east leaving the British Isles largely defended by collaborationist units. In 1945 the US and Canada would launch a daring operation to invade the isles with support from localised partisan units. This would be the largest amphibious invasion in human history.
