Sockets and runes, the Diablo 2 way. Every piece of gear rolled by Itemization Overhaul can now roll sockets — and a ladder of 30 runes, from humble Vel to mythic Zek, can be carved into them permanently. A rune has no tier of its own: its static effect depends entirely on where you socket it — weapon, helmet, body armor, or anything else.

  • Sockets roll once, when the item is made — then they’re locked forever.
  • 30 runes, each with four slot-dependent effects. No ranks, no RNG on the effect.
  • Runes follow Itemization Overhaul’s rarity structure: Normal → Legendary → Ancestral → Relic.
  • Set items always carry standardized socket counts, exactly like Diablo 2 sets.
  • Full Isekai RPG Leveling integration — one socket budget shared with the Runic Station.


Every weapon and piece of apparel is classified into a gear slot, which governs its socket roll and what each rune does inside it. Non-set gear has a 40% chance (tunable) to roll sockets at all:

Socket counts are final. Nothing changes them after creation — not re-rolls, not crafting, and not Isekai’s forge refinement. What an item rolled is what it keeps.


Rarity reflects how deep in the ladder a rune sits — drop odds fall 20% per step. Rarity never changes a rune’s effect; it only describes how hard it is to get. Rune names show in their rarity color on the ground, in menus, and on item cards — using Itemization Overhaul’s own tier colors.

Each rune grants exactly one static effect per gear slot. On-hit procs (ignite / stun / lifesteal) are melee-only and can be toggled in Mod Settings.

Select any item with a free socket and press Socket rune… — the menu lists every rune on the map, already showing the exact effect it would grant this item. The nearest capable colonist fetches the rune and carves it in; the rune is consumed.
