True Companions
An add-on for Slayer’s Bandits that turns the NPCs into people you can live and travel with. Walk up to a survivor, talk them into joining you, and they become a companion you can equip, command, and get to know.
Requires Slayer’s Bandits (Bandits2).
Enable it and load this mod after it.
Slayer’s Bandits Creator(BanditsCreator) is Recommended.
If you want your own special group of Survivors use the Creator and assign them the Profession (only the first slot is considered).
You can also only target your custom Survivor group by adding the name to the Sandbox Setting of this mod.
- Recruit – Watch out for Survivors in your World (you get a Alert on top of the screen), then recruit them through conversation. Some might want a gift first.
- Affection / Friendship – Depending on the gender you can increase their Affection / Friendship levels unlocking further features.
- Dialogue – a branching, frameless conversation with stat and trait checks. Strength, traits like Brave, and others unlock extra options. Every survivor has a generated backstory you uncover by talking.
- Orders & stances – Follow, Stay, Guard, Hide, with Passive / Defensive / Aggressive stances. Guards watch their surroundings instead of getting jumped from behind.
- Needs & routine – companions get hungry, tired, bored and dirty. Assign spots – bed, chair, TV, food container, bathroom – and they handle it themselves. (WIP)
- Daily schedule – set what they do across Morning / Evening / Night.
- Work – put skilled survivors to work at crafting stations (assignment needed) to produce useful / special items. (WIP)
- Gear & clothing – manage their inventory, hand them weapons, and dress them by individual clothing layers. Take pieces off (they go to your bag) or put new ones on. (WIP)
- Quests & bonds – companions offer fetch quests. Treating them well raises affinity, which unlocks perks and, for the right pair, a romance track.
- Travel – I enabled the Vehicle Transportation – they can enter your car with you but to make it work I turned them invisible once they enter (Still buggy)
- Anim – for cosmetique and testing – trigger an Animation.
- In-game editor – Debug Mode – write your own dialogue, recipes and quests in the ingame Context Menu (Right-click on ground).
- Sandbox options – tune need rates, affinity gain, companion protection and more.
Find a Survivor – you will see an Icon on the top of the screen if one is nearby.
Only 3 can spawn in an area (configurable) so you have to make them stay – then you can leave and go to another area if you want to find more Survivors (unlimited, configurable)
Face a survivor and press V (rebindable in Options) or right-click them.
Start a base with basic furnitures and assign their needed routine slots for sleep, relaxation, work and hygiene.
Planned features are a better Inventory, better Animations where they actually use furniture, new craftable Workstations for each profession and a Research Tab where depending on Profession they evolve and unlock further interactions and even lore.
Fast Forwarding & Jump-scares are a engine-side problem which are currently not fixable.
Companions can enter your car but to make it work I had them turn invisible. Still buggy (when leaving the car they sometimes get stuck under the car)
- Built on top of Bandits – it extends that mod, it does not replace it.
- Companions that follow you can enter vehicles – still buggy WIP.
- Single-player focused. Multiplayer support is a work in progress.
- Companions are based on the Bandits NPC system, so their clothing is cosmetic-but-editable.
