Description:
Yuffie Kisaragi Voice Pack (FF7 Remake / Rebirth)

Chipper. Spunky. Determined.

Suzie Yeung did a bang-up job bringing the Wutai ninja Yuffie Kisaragi to life in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy. In adapting it for XCOM, I have dialed back the more extreme, overdramatic aspects of the performance (see notes).

Features

– *** Explicit Language warning ***
– Approx 670 lines
– Radio Filter effect only
– One or two references to FF7 lore, but nothing immersion-breaking.
– Female Soldiers Only
– All Psi Abilities Hooked Up
– Most Long War specific ability cues hooked up
– NO SPARK or Templar class abilities (full coverage for Reaper, partial for Skirmisher)
– Cooked

Notes on My Approach

This one took a while to dial in. True to the anime ‘genki girl’ archetype Yuffie’s character is fashioned on, there is a campy, ham-fisted way that her dialogue telegraphs ‘immaturity’ that in English translated to the teen girl squad style of overdramatic and screechy posturing that enough listeners probably find as irritating as I do. Certainly, it wasn’t something I wanted to listen to as frequently as a soldier voicepack.

So after auditing all of Yuffie’s dialog from both Remake and Rebirth, I shot for extracting what was interesting / enjoyable about Yeung’s portrayal of the character.

The result is a version of Yuffie that tries to cut out the worst of the camp. You’re still definitely getting that girly, SPUNKY/CUTESY core of the character here, but I’ve done what I can to cut the overdramatic, grandstanding, and gratingly whiny parts.

After some time testing it in-game, I will say that there is definitely a "Saturday morning cartoon" flavor to a voice this high pitched. So weigh that against the tone and style of the rest of the voicepacks you may be using. Your ear’s mileage may vary.

Without her whiny bits, Yuffie brings an optimistic, can-do attitude to the tactical layer that contrasts sharply with the general tension and gloom of the base game experience. Whether having a soldier with that kind of energetic genki vibe in your squad is a net gain is a decision that is up to you, Commander.

Enjoy.
