Description:

A Slay-the-Spire-inspired rogue-lite campaign mode for Total War: Warhammer III.

– Are you tired of campaign runs that take dozens of hours of empire management, expansion, and map-painting?
– Have you ever wanted to start a new campaign, only to be discouraged by how long the full campaign experience can become?

– Have you ever felt that many mid-tier or transitional units are rarely worth using?
Some units have interesting designs, but because of separate recruitment buildings, better alternatives, or slow campaign progression, they often never get a real chance to shine.

– Do you want a rogue-lite mode for Total War: Warhammer III that plays more like the caravan system: fast battles, frequent rewards, constant army-building, and escalating challenges?

Then you are in the right place.

Warhammer Spire is a rogue-lite campaign experience for Total War: Warhammer III, inspired by Slay the Spire and the original Cathay caravan system.

In this mod, you do not need to recruit units manually, construct buildings, manage settlements, or paint the campaign map. Instead, you progress through a chain of events and choices: choose your path, build your army, gain random rewards, grow stronger, and keep challenging increasingly powerful enemy armies.

Core Features

  • Built into the original campaign, but designed as an almost independent gameplay experience. Everything begins with the new Warhammer Spire button in the lower-right corner of the campaign UI.
  • Progress through a chain of decision events, fight battles, and earn units, heroes, artifacts, and equipment rewards. No traditional campaign management is required.
  • During a run, you may obtain lords, heroes, and units from almost every race, allowing you to build your own dream army.
  • Your army fully recovers after each battle. Every fight is meant to be played at full strength, without worrying about casualties, replenishment, or long-term attrition.
  • The mod uses the original multiplayer unit prices as the basis for balance, aiming to provide a relatively fair combat experience for around 30 rounds.
  • MCT support is included for adjusting several difficulty-related options.

Gameplay Loop

  • Enter a normal campaign and choose any faction from any race you like. Your chosen race becomes your main race and influences the baseline of your future unit and equipment rewards.
  • Once the campaign begins, click the new crossed-swords button in the lower-right corner of the screen to start Warhammer Spire.
  • A special event army will be generated. Move it to a suitable position on the campaign map and begin the event chain.
  • Build your army, fight battles, win rewards, gain experience, level up your heroes, and equip powerful artifacts.
  • Follow the event chain to visit different race nodes, face themed enemy armies, and earn rewards associated with those races.
  • Fight, earn rewards, fight again, earn more rewards… and see how deep your run can go.

Current Version Content

  • Supports almost all major races and factions up to the Bhashiwa version.
  • Event rewards include most vanilla lords, heroes, regular units, elite units, and the majority of vanilla equipment and artifact rewards.

Compatibility

  • Single-player only.
  • Save-game compatible. A new campaign is not required. However, since this mod’s main gameplay is almost entirely independent from normal campaign progression, starting a fresh campaign is still recommended.
  • MCT is supported, with several adjustable options.
  • Confirmed compatible with:
    • Community Bug Fix Mod
    • Memreader
    • Camera Mod
    • Helper UI

  • Does not conflict with MIXER Unlocker. However, factions unlocked by Unlocker are not currently supported by this mod. In practice, Warhammer Spire is mostly based on race selection rather than specific playable factions.
  • Does not conflict with SFO, but balance parity is not guaranteed.
  • Lords, heroes, units, and items added by other mods will not appear in Warhammer Spire reward pools for now.
  • May be incompatible with mods that heavily alter vanilla item, equipment, or unit data.
  • May conflict with UI mods that modify the lower-right campaign button area.

Known Issues

  • Some Legendary Lords from Total War: Warhammer I, such as Karl Franz, may fail to load their correct character model and instead use a Greenskin Shaman placeholder model. Their stats, skills, and combat functionality are currently working as expected, but the model issue has not yet been resolved.
  • Most factions within the same race play almost identically in this mod, though some races with distinct sub-factions, such as Warriors of Chaos, may differ.
  • In the late game, especially after floor 30, there may be some stuttering before entering battle.
  • A small number of crash bugs may still exist and have not yet been reproduced consistently.
