Barents Barrier
СОВЕРШЕННО СЕКРЕТНО
1. (SS) TACTICAL SITUATION:
What follows are orders from GK VMF Red Banner Northern Fleet, codenamed Operation ‘Bear Trap’.
After the last week of fighting, our forces have managed to seize a considerable sum of land in the Northern Norwegian reaches. Our landings in Tromso and Alta were resounding successes. NATO command was caught flat-footed by our offensives and US Naval assets have proven lethargic in their response.
Such a seizure of land has presented us with an opportunity to extend Westward the protective net of our ASW screen, to prevent NATO assets from filtering into our Northern SSBN Bastions.
As such, GK VMF Red Banner Northern Fleet has deemed necessary to forward deploy the 10th; 130th and 170th Anti-Submarine Warfare Brigades, as well as the 3rd; 6th and 33rd Submarine Division to the North and South of Bear Island to form an ASW barrier.
However, in reaction to their foibles in the early days of our offensive, the US Navy is currently reposturing in a decisively offensive manner to try and break through our forces in the Norwegian Sea, to achieve favorable jump-off positions for strikes on our Bastions as well as Murmansk and Arkhangelsk. This cannot come to pass. Carrier Groups 2 and 6 are currently assessed as being 2 days’ travel of being in striking range of our positions in Norway. Further elements of our 7th Operational Squadron are setting sail to further consolidate our stance.
In support of the above efforts, US and Norwegian SSNs and SSKs have begun a coordinated assault toward the Barents Sea. As of yesterday, July 2th, submarines K-432; K-358 and K-306 have failed to check-in at their scheduled times and are presumed lost at sea. Based on their last known location, and transmissions through satellite datalink, we have assessed AT LEAST 2x US SSNs to be operating in a 50NM area SSW of Bear Island, steaming NE towards the Barents Sea. In addition, between 2 and 4 Norwegian Kobben-class SSKs are still believed to be active, submarine B-90 reported their location to be within a 40NM radius NNE of Tromso.
