Battle droids were created by the Trade Federation to serve as cheap, mass-produced soldiers. The most iconic model is the B1-series, first seen in Episode I: The Phantom Menace.
Invasion of Naboo: These droids were remotely controlled via Droid Control Ships. During the Naboo invasion, they overwhelmed local forces until Anakin Skywalker destroyed the control ship, deactivating the entire army.
Clone Wars Era: The B1s were upgraded to operate independently, becoming the backbone of the Separatist Droid Army. They fought against the Republic’s clone troopers across countless battles3.
Variants: Many specialized types emerged, including:
Super Battle Droids (B2) – tougher and better armed.
Droidekas – rolling droids with shields and twin blasters.
Commando Droids – stealthy and highly skilled.
Downfall: After the Clone Wars, the newly formed Galactic Empire deactivated all Separatist droids. Battle droids were banned by the Imperial Senate, though some survived in black markets and Separatist holdouts.
Legacy: Despite being seen as cannon fodder, battle droids became beloved for their quirky personalities in The Clone Wars series, often delivering comic relief with lines like “Roger, roger.”
