Cinematic Battle Camera
Cinematic Battle Camera is an automatic battle-camera director for Total War: WARHAMMER III. Tap the Context Camera key during battle and the camera follows your army, cuts between notable units, and tries to keep the action framed without requiring manual panning.
- Black bars are now disabled by default during active follow. This fixes the UI/follow lock reports and gives a cleaner no-bars version out of the box.
- The director now pre-selects a viable Lord/action subject on activation. Because WH3 processes the native Context Camera action before Lua can always reselect, press the Context Camera key a second time if the first tap follows the previously selected unit.
- Optional cinematic bars are now separate: bind Save Camera Bookmark 10 to a spare key, such as Numpad 4, and press it after camera follow is attached. Press it again, or press Esc, to remove bars.
- Follow recovery has been tightened when the current subject routes, dies, shatters, or loses its target.
- Esc is treated as a cleanup/exit path; if the camera feels stuck, press Esc once and resume normal battle control.
- Follows and cuts between your units using WARHAMMER III’s native Context Camera surface.
- Favors spectacle units such as Legendary Lords, Regiments of Renown, monsters, giants, flyers, cavalry, heroes, and other high-value cast members.
- Returns to your Lord as a narrative anchor while still cutting to action moments.
- Uses guarded script logic only; no custom toolbar, no MCT dependency, no input stealing, and no scripted black-screen/cutscene mode.
Press Insert during battle. Insert is WARHAMMER III’s default Context Camera key. If you rebound Context Camera, use your rebound key instead. If the first tap attaches to the previously selected unit, press the same key once more to confirm/reacquire on the director-selected subject. Press Esc to cleanly release/exit if the native camera feels stuck. The mod works best after battle deployment once units exist on the field.
Bars are off by default for stability. If you want the widescreen look, bind Save Camera Bookmark 10 to a spare key such as Numpad 4, then press that key after the camera has attached. This uses WH3’s native cinematic UI surface and may briefly delay the HUD while the game restores it; press the bars key again or Esc to clean up.
- WH3 6.x does not expose reliable live unit coordinates to battle Lua, so this mod uses native Context Camera follow plus safe unit selection rather than fully scripted camera paths.
- Continuous hands-free rotation is not exposed to Lua on the current patch. The cinematic feel comes from subject cuts and the game’s native follow behavior.
- The initial key is tied to WH3’s Context Camera action. If nothing happens, check that Context Camera is bound in Options > Controls.
- Optional bars are cosmetic and deliberately separate from camera follow because the native cinematic UI can affect tracking on some setups.
