The mod includes mostly historical chains of succession for the following monarchies (and countries formed by them):
- Denmark
- Netherlands
- Belgium
- Sardinia
- Prussia
- Bavaria
- Saxony
- Württemberg
- Hanover
- Baden
- Hesse-Darmstadt
- Hesse-Kassel
- Oldenburg
- Mecklenburg-Schwerin
- Mecklenburg-Sterlitz
- Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach
- Saxe-Coburg-Gotha
- Saxe-Meiningen
- Anhalt
- Lippe
- Greece
- Montenegro
- Moldavia
- PWallachia
- Bulgaria
- Persia/Iran
- Oman
- KEgypt
- Nejd/Saudi Arabia
- Hedjaz
- Zaidi Imamate/Qasimid State
- Bahrain
- Abu Dhabi/Trucial States
- Tunis

- Vietnam
- Luang Prabang/Laos

- Siam/Thailand
- Burma
- Nepal
- KBhutan
- Bukhara
- Khiva
- Khokand

- Lesotho (Basutoland)
- Eswatini (Swaziland)
- Burundi
- Rwanda
- Sokoto
- Hawaii
- Brunei
- SSulu
- Aceh
- Papal States (Popes)
- Tibet (Dalai Lamas)
The mod also includes historical death years for many of those monarchs. This can be disabled by a game rule at the start of a campaign.
I have also inlcuded historical monarch generation on independence for some plausible countries, which would need historical monarchs after gaining independence: Luxembourg, Finland, Norway and Bulgaria.
The chains of succession for countries that historically abolished the monarchy are extended beyond that for alternate history purposes (meaning that you can extend the monarchy in for example Germany into 1936 and still have historical monarchs).
Additionally –inspired by the daimyo system of vanilla Japan– this mod includes a historical magnate generation mechanic for German federal monarchies (North German Confederation, South German Confederation, German Empire, Holy Roman Empire, Confederation of the Rhine), so the historical monarchs of certain German states should exist as magnates and politicians with their appropriate title, clothing, and chains of succession (e.g. the kings of Saxony will exist as magnate type characters within Germany, if another German country forms it). Since only one magnate can own manor houses in a single state, only the largest German state’s monarch is generated in that state region (e.g. only the grand dukes of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, not the grand dukes of Mecklenburg-Sterlitz).
Thus, provided they are not the ruler of the country, the following German federal monarchs are generated as magnates:
- King of Bavaria
- King of Württemberg
- King of Saxony
- King of Prussia
- Grand Duke of Baden
- Grand Duke of Oldenburg
- Grand Duke of Hesse
- Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin
- Duke of Anhalt
- Duke of Brunswick
- Prince of Lippe
The mod includes localization for all languages supported by the base game.
I am planning adding more countries to the above list (provided there is enough information about the rulers), and even narrative content to countries where dynasty changes occured (e.g. independence of Luxembourg, dynasty change in Herat, monarchy in Bhutan, Pahlavi Iran, etc.). I am also looking into historical regents for regencies, even for Tibet.
- Some of the above monarchies had complicated chains of succession, with short reigns, coups, and some rulers sitting on the throne for two or more different periods. These would be very complicated to implement so I had to take some liberties with simplifying the chains.
- This mod does NOT prevent earlier than historical deaths of rulers (I may implement that later, I don’t yet know how random deaths are decided). This also means that the non-scripted death of an heir can break the chain of succession. There are currently no fail-safes against that, but I will look into it.
- The way this mod generates historical heirs have the possibility to generate an heir with negative age (due to the fixed, historical birth dates of characters), especially if a ruler dies earlier than scripted. This is not very disruptive, but I may look into better heir generation mechanisms where someone became the heir apparent early in life.
- This mod does NOT include custom DNA/looks for historical rulers (those I could find pictures of). I tried to make it work but I couldn’t, and it takes a lot of effort to make a model resemble their historical counterpart when someone is not trained/experienced in such things.
- The ideologies, interest groups and non-randomly generated traits of historical characters were determined by reading their Wikipedia pages. I don’t have time to find primary sources for that many monarchs, so sorry if I made some mistakes, included incorrect information or made wrong assumptions. Sometimes, due to a lack of information, I had to invent birth dates, interest groups and ideologies for characters. Please write in the Feedback discussion if you find something you would like to see fixed.
- The localization for the names of characters were mostly determined using the languages’ Wikipedia for that person. Sometimes, especially with East Asian languages, due to the lack of Wikipedia entries or listes, I had use machine translators to transliterate names. Pleae write in the Feedback discussion if you notice something you would like to see fixed.
The following countrie are not inlcuded because their chains of succession are handled in vanilla:
- Sweden
- Russia
- Austria
- France
- Great Britain
- Serbia
- Ottoman Empire
- Portugal
- Spain
- Morocco
- Japan
This game should be compatible with all mods that do not edit the starting rulers of German states.
