Intamin P30 (Moscow monorail EPS)
The Moscow monorail train by the Moscow Institute of Thermal Engineering and Intamin
The Moscow monorail was a unique transport system that operated in Moscow since 2004. It was the only monorail in Russia and, excluding maglevs, the only asynchronous linear induction motor monorail in the world. The project started in the late 1990s as preparation for a possible Expo-2010, and passenger operation began on November 20, 2004. The line was 4.7 km long with 6 stations.
The rolling stock was loosely based on the Swiss Intamin P30 with Russian MITE modifications. It operated in a six-car configuration at speeds up to 40 km/h. Ten passenger trains were built.
In June 2025, the Moscow authorities unexpectedly closed the monorail and announced its demolition. A "walking park in the air" will be built in its place. The monorail operated for 21 years.
