1. Blaney’s 2009 job was very specific: qualify the car to earn prize money, run a few laps and later park it to save equipment.
2. The legendary Wood Brothers Racing team was having a terrible season and ran a part-time schedule. Bill Elliott gave the team clean, consistent finishes which completely saved the team’s future.
3. Roush Fenway’s development driver, Erik Darnell, was unexpectedly called to Hall of Fame racing late in the season. This caused controversy about how talent no longer guaranteed a ride simply because of sponsorship.
