Description:

[DISCLAIMER]
This is a public beta version of the DEAD AIR: Fog of Grand Chien mod. Almost all the core mechanics planned for the 1.0 release are already implemented and working.
This mod adds full-fledged fog of war mechanics to the Satellite Map. You will no longer see complete information about the movements and composition of enemy units. To solve this problem, new items and squad review mechanics have been added.
More details are described below.
This is a mod-friendly modification. I tested it on my save with major mods. There should be no conflicts.

CLASSIFICATION: TOP SECRET // NOFORN
AGENCY: A.I.M. & ████████
USER: ██████
DATE: ██.██.2001
████: DEAD AIR
SUBJECT: PROJECT “FOG OF GRAND CHIEN”

[SITREP]: ██.██.2001

Due to the global market crash (██████ ██████), A.I.M. headquarters has transitioned to a strict austerity mode. Access to military tracking satellites has been revoked due to a lack of funding. Field operators are cut off from the global intelligence network. Your PDA no longer receives telemetry on enemy troop movements.

From this moment on, you are blind. To successfully complete the contract, you and your mercenaries will have to rely exclusively on on-site field reconnaissance.

The A.I.M. recruitment division is actively seeking informants in areas where our specialists are deployed: ████████, Grand Chien, and ███-██████. Currently, there are no updates regarding recruitment results. Stand by for further updates.

[CONSEQUENCES]

⬛ INFORMATION ISOLATION (FOG OF WAR)

  • Enemy Telemetry: Live broadcasts of enemy routes (red lines) and squad composition data are completely disabled on land, water, and in garrisons. The presence of the enemy in an adjacent sector is displayed only with a "?" marker (no exact data).
  • Blind Timeline: Predicting enemy actions is impossible. Markers for assault squads and cargo convoys have been removed from the schedule.
  • Map Disinformation: Captured sectors without critical infrastructure (cities, mines) do not update their status on the map and appear friendly until your mercenaries are close enough to personally verify enemy movements. A.I.M. notifications are only sent when critical facilities are under attack.

[COUNTERMEASURES]

👁️ //HUMINT
Without specialized equipment, your squad’s vision radius is 0. This means you will not see the enemy in an adjacent sector until you walk right into an ambush. To survive, you will have to resort to proven field tools:

  • Soviet Binoculars (basic tier, available for purchase): provides control over the adjacent territory (cross-shaped vision, 5 sectors total). Having three sets of these binoculars in the squad’s inventory upgrades the vision zone to the advanced tier.
  • Advanced Observation Kit (advanced tier, crafting only): grants full perimeter control (3×3 grid, 9 sectors). Assembly requires optics and components (look for clues in the item descriptions).
Note: Vision upgrades are applied locally to the specific squad that has the items equipped.
  • Field Radio Station: unlocks the "Radio Intercept" operation.

📻 //SIGINT
Added a new tactical operation: "Radio Intercept".
If equipped with a Field Radio Station and a mercenary with a high Wisdom stat, the squad can scan the airwaves. The operation takes ~24 hours and forcefully lifts the "fog of war" for its entire duration within a 5×5 grid, providing precise data on garrisons and patrols in the region.

TACTICAL RISKS AND PENALTIES:

  • Triangulation: The enemy tracks unauthorized broadcasts and deploys hunter squads. Each successful intercept reduces the loyalty of the nearest settlement by 5%.
  • Wear and Tear: The radio station sustains technical damage with every communication session. Currently, it is impossible to find spare parts to repair this device in Grand Chien.
  • Exhaustion: Upon completing the operation, the radio operator receives critical fatigue (Exhausted status). [OPERATOR’S NOTE: Try listening to their ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ chatter for 24 hours straight without sleep yourself // NOTE RETAINED]

[THE FUTURE]

We expect the agency to send us leads on informants among the local population. They should help us gather more detailed, firsthand intelligence about the enemy. Obviously, these will be highly valuable assets that the enemy will want to eliminate first.
If we can earn enough money to cover the expenses, A.I.M. operators will try to negotiate the restoration of personal satellite access.
There are also rumors that a qualified pilot is hiding somewhere in Grand Chien…
