Description:
AlternativeVision — Perils of the Sea

The medieval sea was not a safe and predictable highway.

This standalone module introduces storms, ship losses, supply losses and voyage delays for embarked armies.

It can be used independently or together with the other AlternativeVision modules.

Storms at Sea

Every army located in a sea province undergoes a monthly storm check.

  • 80% — no storm
  • 12% — Level 1 storm
  • 5% — Level 2 storm
  • 2% — Level 3 storm
  • 0.8% — Level 4 storm
  • 0.2% — Level 5 storm

Consequences

  • Level 1: lose 5% of soldiers, 20 supplies and suffer a 10-day delay.
  • Level 2: lose 10% of soldiers, 40 supplies and suffer a 20-day delay.
  • Level 3: lose 20% of soldiers, 60 supplies and suffer a 30-day delay.
  • Level 4: lose 50% of soldiers, 80 supplies and suffer a 40-day delay.
  • Level 5: the entire army is destroyed.

Armies already delayed by a storm cannot be struck by another storm until the delay has ended.

Maritime Traditions

Certain cultural traditions protect armies from weaker storms.

  • Maritime Mercantilism and Dexterous Fishermen ignore Level 1 storms.
  • Coastal Warriors and Practiced Pirates ignore Level 1 and Level 2 storms.
  • Seafarers and Maritime Way of Life ignore Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 storms.
  • Level 4 and Level 5 storms remain dangerous to every culture.

Known Limitation

A storm delay currently clears the army’s existing route. The destination must be assigned again after the delay.

Compatibility

This mod does not require a new game.

It may conflict with mods that substantially change army monthly on_actions or embarked army movement.
