The year is 185 AC. King Aegon IV "The Unworthy" is dead. He has left the realm rotted by his excess, but the truest seeds of discord were planted years ago. At just twelve years old, Daemon won a squires’ tourney, was knighted by the King, and publicly received Blackfyre, the ancestral Valyrian steel sword of Aegon the Conqueror. Passed from king to king for generations, the gift sparked the first whispers that Daemon should rule. Now, with the Unworthy dead and his Great Bastards legitimized, Daemon has taken the name of the blade itself.
Though King Daeron II sits the Iron Throne, ruling by law and letters, many whisper that the crown rests upon the wrong brow. Granted lands upon the Blackwater Rush, Lord Daemon Blackfyre has founded his own noble house, reversing the royal colours to fly a black three-headed dragon upon a field of red.
Will the Blackfyre Rebellion tear the realm apart, or will the Black Dragon remain a loyal shield to the Throne?
