kv8 by Kirikax and U929
During the Russo-Finnish War (from December 1939 to March 1940), the Soviets used flamethrower vehicles based on modified T-26 tanks, which were easily collapsible even by anti-tank rifles or small cannons.
In 1941 it was planned to install a flamethrower in a KV at the same time that the same was done in a T-34.
These tanks with flamethrowers were called KV-8 and OT-34 respectively.
In the case of the T-34 (OT-34) they installed the flamethrower in the place of the helmet machine gun, while in the KV (KV-8) they did it in the tower. Another advantage of the KV-8 over the OT-34 was that it could store 5 times more fuel.
In 1942 the production of KV-8 began with the consent of Stalin, who viewed both projects with good eyes. Thus, in January was accepted for production and in April 1942 a series of 102 vehicles was launched, and both the OT-34 and the KV-8 participated in battalions of independent flamethrowers, composed of 10 KV-8 in two companies and 11 OT-34 flamethrower tanks in a company.
Between September and November 1942, 25 more KV-8 were manufactured and another 10 in 1943.
