Description:

Welcome to Manic’s Persian Units – By (unexpected) popular demand, I present the long-awaited units mod for the Iranian culture group. Persian, and the other cultures in the Iranian culture group, now has its own early-game units and a re-designed roster that utilises the high quality Middle Eastern units added in the Holy Fury expansion.

For the early-game units, I thought it would be interesting to base them more on the armies of their Sasanian predecessors than on their Abbasid/Muslim overlords. After all, the Persian heartlands remain majority Zoroastrian in the earlier start dates. For the mid/late-game units, considering Persia was ruled by Turkic and Mongol nomads for a significant part of the Middle Ages, I set out to make them primarily Middle Eastern in appearance, but with a somewhat ‘Altaic’ feel to them.

Unlike with a number of my other mods, this practically does away with the generic Persian DLC unit models since I was getting the impression, from people requesting I make a mod for the Iranian cultures, that they wouldn’t exactly be missed. Since they hardly ever appear on the map, the old models for archers, light cavalry and horse archers have been left untouched.

As a word of warning to all those seeking top notch historical accuracy, this is the first time I’ve really tried to tackle a non-European culture’s units. I know next to nothing about the history of Iran, its civilisation or the appearance of their troops throughout the Middle Ages so I apologise in advance if these look awful. Let’s just say that Professor Google was a big help in my research for the unit design inspirations in this mod and he’s not exactly known for his trustworthiness.

Also, a side note, there’s an issue where the helmets don’t 100% align with the models of the heavy infantry/cavalry. Since the only way to fix it is to make the helmets unrealistically big (which causes another problem whereby they aren’t aligned properly with the head) there is unfortunately nothing I can do to fix it.

This custom unit pack should be fully compatible with any and all mods for Crusader Kings II, so long as they don’t also edit units tied to the ‘persiangfx’ culture (specifically the ‘persian_units.gfx’ file).

Want even more modded units? Or perhaps you’re just the nosy type like me? Then I humbly suggest that you check out my other unit mods, located in the Manic’s Units workshop collection.

For those experiencing issues with the Workshop, or otherwise wish to bypass it for whatever reason, you can download a file containing all of the Manic’s Units mods and add-ons here[www.dropbox.com]. Simply place both the folder(s) and the .mod file(s) in your CK2 mod folder (DocumentsParadox InteractiveCrusader Kings IImod by default).

All of these mods are both Ironman & savegame compatible.
