Toprus’ Small Railway Storage
Hi!
Today I want to present to you my first building that is not a passenger station – it’s actually a small brick storage.
I wanted to create this for people, who want to roleplay on their republics. The inspiration was the system used in Poland untill late 1990s. This is roughly how it goes:
Due to the small number of trucks and the fact that they weren’t used on long distance routes yet, all goods were transported by train, even if it was just one waggon. A sight of such v e r y short freight train was common in rural ares of Poland and propably other countries. The system works like this:
-From a large freight hub, many small freight trains head to all sides,
-They go on smaller branchlines to the villages along them,
-At every station they drop out cargo at storages, from which a small local truck picks them up and delivers goods to stores in the village.
-Empty train comes back to the main cargo hub,
-Repeat.
That system was very common, because of the dense railway system and the not so much advanced road network. At that point, it was better to have a train with a single waggon go to drop cargo at a village, where a truck would distrbute it, than have a truck drive a long way on roads with extremely bad condition.
Unfortunately because of the fact, that the road network is getting more advanced, these short freight trains disapeared and trucks replaced them. That kind of system stayed the for the longest time in the Bieszczady region of Poland which was the most undeveloped.
At your disposal you have:
3 factory connections
1 road connection
1 rail connection
The storage is small and compact, which makes it a nice substitute for the overscaled vanilla one.
I hope you have a lot of fun with it.
Cheers!
