We have replaced the XP Kibble MAX flavor with XP Kibble TEK. The benefit remains the same, but this update comes with three changes: (1) the recipe now calls for Black Pearls instead of Honey; (2) the Engram for XP Kibble TEK is unlocked at level 95 (instead of 75); and (3) the TEK Replicator is a prerequisite to learn the XP Kibble TEK Engram. By doing this, we have effectively made a TEK Tier consumable, hence the name XP Kibble TEK and the updated look. We were originally going to unlock the Engram once you defeated one of the bosses, but that would require altering core game functionality. Using the TEK Replicator as a prerequisite is cleaner and keeps this mod from conflicting with others.
Quick version: XP Kibble is a mod that gives you the ability to craft a special kind of kibble which you can feed to your tame to give it an XP boost for a limited period of time.
Long version: My son and I were playing on The Center map and we were both flying on our newly tamed Argents (we call them Argys [ar-jeez]) when we decided it would be good to find some Explorer Notes so we can level them up quickly. Then we realized that we’ve never actually seen any Explorer Notes on The Center. We looked it up and sure enough, The Center map does not have any Explorer Notes. Sad face.
That’s when I came up with the idea for this mod. I searched the workshop and couldn’t really find what I wanted: a way to cook up a treat of some kind that I could feed to a tame to give it an XP boost similar to what you get when you find an Explorer Note. I did find a mod that included an XP drink that did something similar to what I was looking for, except that the mod was quite big and this feature was only a small part of it. I didn’t want to install a big mod for the sole purpose of using only a small part of it. I just wanted something small that would solve the problem.
So I set out to learn how to make mods for Ark, and the result is XP Kibble. This mod allows you to craft up a special kind of kibble that you can feed to your tames to give it an XP buff that will allow you to gain more XP quickly for a limited period of time.
Here are some quick things you need to know. For more detailed information, see the “Answering Potential Questions” section below.
There are five different flavors (tiers) of XP Kibble: Simple, Regular, Superior, Exceptional, and TEK. Those should all sound familiar to you.
XP Kibble Regular gives the same buff for the same duration as a regular Explorer Note. XP Kibble TEK is not restricted to any player level but unlocks with other TEK.
Take a look at the images above and you’ll find screengrabs of each Kibble flavor and the ingredients required to craft them. You’ll notice that the recipes are nearly identical to their normal taming kibble counterparts except for two things: (1) XP Kibble does not require water (except for XP Kibble TEK); and (2) they do require Element Dust (XP Kibble TEK requires Element). Also worth noting is that XP Kibble is crafted in the player inventory, not in the cooking pot. For more on why that is, see “Answering Potential Questions” below.
I have yet to learn how to make use of the Game.ini/GameUserSettings.ini files within the Ark Dev Kit. This means that as of now, there is no way to change the settings of this mod. I am sure this will disappoint a few of you out there who dislike the amount of XP in the buff, the duration, or the levels in which the engrams unlock. I will look into expanding this mod in the future to support such configuration.
This mod does not alter any core game resources in any way. Instead, I have created new kibble classes and buffs. Load order should not matter.
While developing this mod, I found that my son and I had were asking ourselves a lot of questions. That naturally led me to believe that many of you would also have questions. My hope here is to answer as many of those questions as I can so you don’t need to wait on me or others for a reply. If you don’t find an answer to your question here, post your comment and I’ll try and answer when possible.
I just found out the hard way that Steam has a character limit of mod description pages. Instead of putting all the Questions and Answers here, I have created a Google Doc that I will link to here. I will update the doc when I get new questions that I can answer.
For those of you out there who hate having to earn your rewards, here are the console command spawn codes to gift yourself XP Kibble in all four flavors. Replace the 1 in the codes below with however many you want to gift yourself.
Change the false to true if you want to spawn in a blueprint instead which will allow you to craft XP Kibble in the Cooking Pot / Industrial Cooker. Still trying to figure out how to make these blueprints available in-game without having to spawn them in, so others can also craft XP Kibble outside the player inventory.
