Description:

Ever notice how a number of families are represented as independent dynasties in CK3, when they should really be cadet branches of another dynasty instead? Well, this mod aims to fix that.

Currently, it changes the following houses from independent dynasties to cadet branches (listed under their parent dynasty, in alphabetical order):

Hashimid Dynasty:
– Abbasid
– Alavid
– Fatimid
– Hammudid
– Idrisid
– Rassid
– Ukhaidhirid

Hawiye Dynasty:
– Garen
– Jid’ati
– Muqri
(I’m not sure if this grouping is historically accurate or not, but the characters are related in-game, so I put them under the same parent dynasty.)

Robertine Dynasty:
– Bourgogne
– Babenberger

Sigurdr Dynasty:
– Hvitserk
– Munsö
– Ubbing

This should be considered an alpha release. It has not been extensively tested, and there may be bugs I’m unaware of in addition to those listed under "Known Issues".

Compatibility:

This mod works by creating new cadet branches of the parent dynasties, and then transferring the appropriate characters to them on game start. So if another mod specifically references the formerly-independent dynasties by dynasty number, in code that runs after game start, they may not work as intended. Coat-of-Arms mods should be compatible, though, as long as they’re loaded before this mod.

Known Issues:

This mod currently does not account for starting renown or splendor, so it’s possible that some of these houses will start with less renown and/or splendor than they do in vanilla. I’ve been trying to figure out how starting renown and splendor are calculated so that I can take them into account in a future version, but no luck so far. If you know anything about how that works, please let me know.

When a member of a cadet branch founds a new cadet branch, if its randomly generated name is a hyphenated form (e.g. "Habsburg-Lorraine"), the new name will be based on the parent dynasty’s name, not the name of the character’s former house. This is vanilla behavior, and unfortunately, as far as I can tell, it’s currently hardcoded and unmoddable. If it ever becomes possible to change that behavior, I’d like to do so.

For some reason, in the 867 bookmark, the name of the Arabian Empire is displayed as "Arabian Empire", rather than "Abbasid", as it is normally. Oddly, the Sultanate of Egypt in the 1066 bookmark still displays as "Fatimid". I have no idea why one would change but not the other, but hopefully I’ll be able to identify the problem and fix it. Fortunately, it’s a pretty minor issue, and shouldn’t affect gameplay at all.

I’m not currently aware of any way to dynamically change the houses of dead characters, so characters who are dead at game start retain their original dynasties. The familial relationships are the same, though.

If you know of any other dynasties that should be included in this mod, please post them (and their parent dynasties) in the Suggestions thread.
