Rebirth of Sparta
Year 846 A.D.
Entire Hellas is under the thumb of pretenders, tyrants and their False God. Hellenic religion and culture are dying.
By sanction of Zeus, Ares’s desperate plan is set in motion. God of war descend’s into Sparta, looking for last Lakedaímōn woman of ancient Atreidae bloodline named Nephele. Descendant of Menelaus, Atreus and Leonidas. What he didn’t tell Zeus is that he is in love with her. After some time together she falls in love with him. They marry and settle in a small house on the eastern bank of Eurotas river, living happily and idyllically.
April 17th, 849 A.D.
Their first son is born, Nephele however doesn’t survive the birth. This breaks Ares’s heart and spirit, however he knows he must finish what was started. He names their son Tyndareos, and raises him. Athena decides to help Ares with teaching young demigod all about his heritage, culture and religion.
July, 866 A.D.
Tyrant Christophoros rises taxes and tariffs in all of Laconia, driving many Greeks into poverty. Small pockets of rebels arise, but they are quashed with extreme prejudice and alacrity. Ares and Athena decide that Tyndareos is ready. It’s time to say goodbye and set him out to try and save their people. Farewell is long and heartbreaking for everyone involved, sending even mighty Ares and composed Athena (who grew extremely attached to their surrogate son) into tears of both pride and sorrow. Both parents give their child last parting gifts.
From Ares – mighty shield, deadly sword and unbreakable spear, forged by Hephaestus himself.
From Athena – Tyndareos’s favourite book and a very smart and loyal Owl named Ereis.
From both of them – love, pride and hope of all Hellens.
Late September, 866 A.D.
Tyndareos gathers volounteers, weapons and supplies in secret, training and preaparing his army for organized coup. People of Laconia are murmuring about hope for the end of their suffering. Greeks on King Chrysaphios’s court open eyes of the Achaian ruler to atrocieties and tyranny of Christophoros.
King of Achaia is distraught with what he lears, however he can’t do anything but silently root for and bless the rebellion.
December 6th, 866 A.D.
Messenger from Chrysaphios reaches Tyndareos, carrying message stating silent support for his endevors. The very same day rebell army leaves their hidden camp in the Laconian mountains and sets out to Mistra – seat of Christophoros’s government.
December 15th, 866 A.D.
Under cover of the night Tyndareos’s forces take possesion over Mistra and execute tyrant ruler of Laconia.
December 22nd, 866 A.D.
King of Achaia officially recognizes Tyndareos "Son of Ares" as a new ruler of Laconia in his name.
Rebirth of Sparta is a roleplaying alternative history mod. It started out as a simple replacement of Christophoros’s dynasty Coat of Arms and turned into something bigger, which I decided to share with all of you.
This mod features:
– Completely new custom character – Tyndareos – with preset appearance, statistics and traits (I’m still trying to figure out how to make him retain intended set of clothes – Byzantine Armor without anything on head, but for now you can do it from the Barber Shop).
– Also completely new Dynasty – Atreidae – with it’s own Coat of Arms featuring custom-made symbol (Still trying to figure out how to set motto for the house, for now it’s still randomly generated)
– New Coat of Arms for Laconia – same one as Atreidae
I wanted to rename Mistra as Sparta and switch it’s position, however I don’t know how to do that yet. Maybe I’ll do it later.
In the future if I have time and drive to do so I’ll expand mod with events, decisions, custom titles and who knows what else.
Tyndareos may seem a bit OP at first glance, however this serves two purposes
1 – offsetting penalties from him having different faith than his liege, territory and most councillors
2 – Conveing that he is a Demigod and a descendant from two ancient bloodlines of legendary Spartan kings
At this point mod should be compatible with pretty much anything that doesn’t touch c_laconia in history/titles/k_hellas.txt.
