Description:

A Reshade preset i made precisely for Civilization 6 game. This mod wont directly work only by subscribing it. Instead, it provides you my precious Reshade preset file and clear installing instructions in its folder. Don’t be scared, it’s easy, very rewarding and performance free ! If you are still skeptical about screenshots, be aware they were done in the hurry and they don’t really do it justice. If you already know the powerful magic Reshade can do, then you don’t need to be convinced.

~~~~~~~~~~~~ PHILOSOPHY ~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay it’s about time i come to help some of you guys that always disliked Civilization 6 weird atmosphere color choices. It’s not that Firaxis is totally wrong, it’s just that they made a very pronounced choice and i never was agree with these particular colors and contrasts directions. Kinda true that ambiance feels like blurred, shiny, with exagerated oversaturated colors (a bit like that "Blood and wine" expansion from witcher3 yeah ?). Especially the yellow/green crazy values which subconsciously tire your eyes and add a taste of piss to every awesome graphisms & textures the game has. Don’t mind me, otherwise Civ6 has a wonderful art direction, and we are damn lucky everything else is well done because it will just take a good and accurate reshade to makes things perfect.
I made this precious civ6 Reshade preset almost when i started to play the game at its release to aim for less cartoonish and more soothing colors. I polished it easily a hundred of times over the years. At some point when some of my civ6 friends were crashing at home, some were starting to harass me so i give them the file. I thought it was just little personal comfort tweak but with time i also heard a few people finally complaining about it on forums or workshop. Friends were saying "I can’t do the preset myself, i don’t have your eyes/sensibility for this kind of stuff". Yeah since i am a 36y old visual artist in real life (illustrator/comic artist) it kinda helps … and can’t deny it usually takes experience to tweak colors, contrasts, and game assets without ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ too much the balance. You have my assurance here it’s done with same attention than my art and i looked after having no loss in detail or color range.
Please, if you don’t agree with that Reshade and you like civ6 colors how they are, good for you ! We are not in a debate or a discussion here, i only want to help people wanting the same thing as i did back in the day. So please keep your contradicting opinion for yourself.
~~~~~~~~~~~~ INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS ~~~~~~~~~~~~

Readme and file are inside the mod folder : 2368227839 located in : Steamsteamappsworkshopcontent289070

Please read my instruction file even if you know your s**t with Reshade !!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~ HOW PRESET WAS CREATED ~~~~~~~~~~~~
  • AdaptiveSharpen : One of the most powerful tool of Reshade, adaptive sharpen can be a hell to configure but gives you a better picture/graphism/model accuracy. I spent quite some time to find the perfect value here and hear me out, don’t be tempted to tweak it for more a "precise" result that it already is. Going further from my value could easily ♥♥♥♥ up graphisms by adding too much "picking" effect, ultimately even creating aberrations.
  • Clarity : A tool that simulate a more precise texture rendering, i don’t advise touching to this, at some point a weird grain appear on all game textures.
  • ColorMatrix : This is the most important tweak here, a critical color hue rebalance to remove that ugly yellow-piss-ish mood the vanilla game has (try to remove all other effects and activate/desactivate it so you can check how pertinent it really is !) It took me hundred of hours playing and monitoring every game assets to find these precious values which may appear simple at first glance.
  • Curves : Curve is a formidable contrast tool, but has to be used with a very sensitive parcimony, otherwise you will ♥♥♥♥ up blacks, loose colors, or exagerate color scission.
  • Fake HDR : I used the fake HDR tool with weird values for half of the things it should be normally doing. Not touching shadows & blacks which are already on point with other effects but only slightly doping the overall game light, making things a bit clearer, a tiny tweak indeed but one that still plays its part in my preset.
  • LumaSharpen : Reinforce light edges with a real time 2D filter. A too powerful value can create lines where there is not, gotta be very careful with this one.
  • Technicolor : A clever desaturation that act on all screen. Usually Users tend to exagerate values to have some black and white or filmic picture and end up being suffocated by its power leading to desactivate it after few games. My values just help to tame the crazy vanilla color saturation to something more realistic with a moderate touch of Oldschool/hipster/classical mood.
  • Vibrance : More middle colors depth, even if technicolor did a slight desaturation beforehand, few medium specter color kind of already suffered from it and vibrance is used here to bring them back alive without affecting the rest.
~~~~~~~~~~~~ MOD COMPATIBILITY ~~~~~~~~~~~~

Since this is not a mod but a reshade preset, it should be working with all civ6 version, content, expansions and dlcs

~~~~~~~~~~~~ MOD FUTURE ~~~~~~~~~~~~
Might be updating it if i find any improvment or easier install/instructions, but for the preset file it’s been a long time i find it perfect.
