Description:

SYUARD

WELCOME, COMRADE!

THE NEW REPUBLIC OF ALYESKA HAS BROKEN FREE FROM THE IMPERIALST CLUTCHES OF THE UNITED STATES. MANY YEARS OF MISTREATMENT HAS LEFT THE AREA’S NATURAL RESOURCES UNEXPLOITED, AND THERE IS ONLY BASIC INFASTRUCTURE TO SUPPORT ANY FUTURE ENDEAVOURS. THIS IS VERY UNFORTUNATE, FOR ALYESKA AND THE SOVIET BLOC. ALYESKA IS HOME TO MANY PRECIOUS RESOURCES WHICH, IF UTILIZED TO THEIR FULLEST EXTENT, WILL BENEFIT ALL OF HUMANITY. YOU HAVE BEEN ASSIGNED TO THE SYUARD AREA. REORGANIZING THE LOCAL RAILROAD AND ROAD SYSTEM SHOULD BE YOUR NUMBER 1 PRIORITY. WE HAVE HIGH HOPES FOR YOUR PROGRESS. THE REST OF ALYESKA IS IN A SIMILAR STATE OF DISARRAY, AND WE HOPE YOUR ACTIONS HERE WILL INSPIRE PROGRESS TO THE REST OF THE REPUBLIC.

GOOD LUCK, COMRADE!

Syuard is based off a heightmap of the SEWARD, ALASKA area. I’ve remade it with a more accurate heightmap and actual maps from the 1960’s before the ’64 earthquake. Getting information of the northern communities near Seward at the time was hard, so I’ve taken some artistic liberties and made small villages roughly where smaller communities are today. Seward proper is still a little inaccurate, this is mainly due to the lack of assets I could use since I wanted it to be vanilla. However, what I did manage to get is roughly similar, and much more accurate than my first version. I’ve also taken the time to reorganize the resources and rivers, and while many natural locations are inaccurate, I’ve done the best of my current ability to match them up. The lack of connections and easy resource locations is intended, since IRL Seward only has 3 ways in, by land thru the north, by sea by the south, and by air from anywhere else. It’s also because I’ve found the earlier version of the map too easy to make an export economy on the edge, since many resources were right next to each other.

This is my second public map, and any criticism/suggestions are very much appreciated.

The thumbnail image uses a coat of arms ‘borrowed’ from /u/T-86772689 on reddit, if they want, I can replace it with some half ***ed creation I made. I just really like theirs for now.
