Italy, Visconti Edition
A rebrand of the old "Italy, 1421" mod. It contains everything that mod, with updates coming.
In this alternate history mod, Gian Galeazzo Visconti simply doesn’t die in 1402. This leads to a complicate chain of events that in the short term bring about a Kingdom of Italy, in the year 1418, which itself would go on to unify the peninsula.
Two start dates are currently playable: the recommended one is the regular 1444 one, where Italy starts off in the middle of the Crusade of Varna with a powerful vassal swarm. Once the Ottomans are properly dismantled, Italy can then focus on defeating Venice and the Papal States, taking on the King of Naples (with a special event that allows to go directly to restore your union with Naples as soon as Alphonse’s last testment happens) and making use of the redesigned and overhauled mission tree to get into the Atlantic game and beyond.
The second start date, a previous one, is also the more instable. It allows to play as Gian Galeazzo Visconti himself, fresh off the coronation, leading a significantly weaker Italy. The history files for many nations are for now a little bit janky and there are no special events yet, so I wouldn’t say it’s worth checking out for now other than to test it.
Among the other things changed by this mod,
– The Von Luxemburgs mantain their hold on the throne of Holy Roman Emperors and dethrone the Wittelsbachs, crippling the Habsburg diplomatic machine and setting their own diplomatic powers in motion
– Hungary and Poland (in the 1444 start date) are in a union together, because
– The Battle of Varna is won by the Christian forces with the help of the count of Carmagnola, leader of the Italian army, which means the Ottomans start in 1444 at war with half of Europe.
On top of this, new events are going to be added, the mission tree for Italy will progressively be refined (maybe I’ll even end up adding a mission tree for Luxemburg) and more content will definitely come out of this mod.
