Description:

"Unlike the rank and file of the spearmen that make up the citizen militia, the Silver Spears are professional Soldiers. Those who wish to join their ranks must first purchase their commission and their own equipment. Most recruits join to pursue a military career or can afford to fulfill their military obligations as part of an elite unit rather than joining the militia. Cadets are required to attend and graduate from one of Ulthuan’s many renowned Military academies before they can join a regiment. The Silver Spears also serve as the military police, militia captains, logicians, tacticians, or as well paid contracted soldiers and military advisors to wealthy lords and princes. However they serve, they uphold the military traditions of the Asur."

This mod adds a new unit to the HE roster: The Silver Spears.

They are a tier 4 units meant take damage and soak up missile fire like a sponge. They have high armor, melee defense, large health pool, shields, and a 50% resistance to missile damage. They have slightly more AP damage than the Lothern Seaguard, but are not meant to be damage dealers. You will still want to bring Swordmasters and Phoenix Guard with you in your end game armies.

This unit also causes high threat, drawing the attention of the enemy. Send them out in front of your squishier infantry to draw enemy missile fire.

Unit attributes are:
50% resistance to missiles
Charge Reflector vs large
Charge Reflector
Hide Forrest (is hidden in forests)
Encourages (+6 leadership to nearby units)
Martial Prowess

Their upkeep is 300 where as Swordmasters are at 325.

They are affected by every trait or skill that affects spearmen.

This unit is not meant to replace any other unit, but to supplement the existing options for end game front line infantry. I made this unit becuase I was bored just bringing Phoenix Guard and Swordmasters and I missed the shield walls from the early game. Also, DE and Dwarf missile fire can be a ♥♥♥♥♥ and I wanted a unit that could soak up their damage without being OP.

The sold color shield pattern seen in the picture is from a mod called the Solid Pattern Sheilds for High Elf Spearmen: Compatibility version.

A couple of cool strategies I’ve noticed since I started using them.

– If you bring enough, you can ditch some of your LSG for the more efficient and better archers since the SS can hold the line so well. Unit variety is a thing again.

– Because of their missile resistance, friendly fire from your archers is not that big of a deal. Trap the enemy with your spears and let your archers do the work.

– Because they have the quality "is high threat", the enemy is usually unlikely to disengage them once engaged.

Send your spears out in front of your more vulnerable infantry and have them engage the enemy first, draw all their missile fire, and once the enemy’s melee troops hit your spear wall flank with your swordmasters, phoenix guards, or cav.

-Use your spears to bunch up the enemy into a blob then hit it from behind with a dragon breath. So satisfying.
