LNER Flying Scotsman – USA Tour Edition
In 1969, Alan Pegler decided it would be a good idea to take the world famous Flying Scotsman to America.
The tour was a hit, they travelled thousands of miles and didn’t have many major hiccups.
So he tried again in 1970… This one didn’t go so well and, to sum up, Pegler was declared bankrupt and Scotty was left stranded in America.
William McAlpine stepped up to save the engine, and bought it home.
