Description:

Are you tired of the same 3 Byzantine faction songs from the Legacy of Rome DLC? Are you looking to add some spice to your Byzantium run, something that really lets you step back into the Byzantine world? Then TRE – Songs of the East and West is the mod for you!

What this mod does:

Adds 16 new songs to the game for Byzantine (and Roman) factions. The songs were hand-picked from a wide range of available historical and videogame sources, remastered and cut as needed, giving a similar feel to the existing music of the game. About three quarters of the songs are either Byzantine (or bordering cultures’) music from the actual time period of the Byzantine Empire, or are directly derived from Byzantine music (there are a couple of songs that are pre- and post-Byzantine, but they are related culturally to Byzantium). Almost all songs are 2-3 minutes long, and I included both liturgical and secular selections, so as to transition often enough to give a feeling of the diversity and long years of the Empire.

This mod will not affect achievements and can be used with Ironman.

Musical Selection :
[Note: a few of the names were slightly modified in-game for immersion factor]
[Note 2: I do not own the rights to these musical selections, and I will credit the sources below]

1 – "Ode to the Theotokos" – A selection of the Ode to the Theotokos from The Greek Byzantine Choir, led by Lykourgos Angelopoulos; musical style certainly originating in 10-12th Century Byzantium (possibly earlier)
2 – "Phos Hilaron at Blachernai" – Civilization V version (Byzantium – Peace), composed by Geoff Knorr; modern arrangement of the 4th Century Byzantine hymn
3 – "Phos Hilaron at Manzikert" – Civilization V version (Byzantium – War), composed by Geoff Knorr; modern arrangement of the 4th Century Byzantine hymn
4 – "Prokeimenon" – A selection from Prokeimenon by Cappella Romana; musical style certainly originating in 10-12th Century Byzantium (possibly earlier)
5 – "The Sybillene Oracles" – from Jerusalem, Jordi Savall; 6th Century Byzantine poetry, arranged in a later style
6 – "The Apostate Tyrant" – from Kassia, VocaMe; music of St. Kassia, famous 9th Century Byzantine composer and abbess
7 – "Epitaph of Seikilos" – Civilization V version (Greece – Peace), composed by Geoff Knorr; modern arrangement of the Epitaph of Seikilos, an artifact uncovered in Asia Minor dating from the 1st or 2nd Century AD
8 – "Genovefa" – from The Greek Folk Instruments; traditional – from Late Byzantine Epirus c.1300
9 – "Hasapikos" – from The Greek Folk Instruments; traditional – from 12th Century Constantinople
10 – "Klamata" – from The Greek Folk Instruments; traditional – from Middle Byzantine era c.1200
11 – "Kyrie", a hymn sung by the Monks of the Abbey of St Ottilien, universal style of Late Roman chant (5th-6th Century)
12 – "Hurrian Hymn to Nikkal" – Civilization V version (Carthage – War), Geoff Knorr; Hurrian hymns c. 1400 BC, in a more modern "classical film" style, evocative of the apocalyptic war with the Sassanids and the Age of Heraclius

——————————–

The Rhomaic Era (TRE) is a series of small mods that aim to improve the somewhat lackluster historical content and atmosphere of the Byzantine Empire, arguably the single most important state within the epochal scope of Crusader Kings II. In a sense, this series of mods is intended as an unofficial supplement to the Legacy of Rome DLC. TRE introduces historically-themed, thoughtfully-minded additions that are immersive to the Byzantine player, and are packaged to allow customization as desired.

Current mods in the series:

+ Chi-Rho Byzantine Imperial Sigil
+ Songs of the East and West
