Sumiko’s Art Stand – Hylotl Paintings And Calligraphy
I always wished that there were more Hylotl paintings available for decorating my base with, seeing that the Hylotl as a whole are very focused on artistry and beauty. Recently, I found the time and motivation to make some decorations of my own, and this is what I’ve come up with.
This mod adds:
- Nine new traditional paintings
- Five new calligraphy paintings
- A warrior painting to match the vanilla one[starbounder.org]
- A self-portrait of Sumiko in a similar style to the Studies in Female Hylotlgy[starbounder.org] painting
- Five nameplates/plaques in gold, silver, copper, light wood and dark wood
Most of the objects added have custom scan dialogue, if that’s something you’re interested in!
To get started, craft Sumiko’s Art Stand at any tier Inventor’s Table for five paper, twenty timber, a red dye, a yellow dye and a blue dye. Sumiko can’t paint anything if you don’t give her a table, paints and canvases! Luckily though, she’s a quick worker – she’ll have plenty of artwork ready for purchase in no time! Literally.
She also sells two reward bag style items that allow you to bulk-buy the nine traditional paintings and the five calligraphy paintings for only 500 pixels per bag. It’s a lot less tedious!

- There’s also a little one I did for fun, it’s not sold at Sumiko’s Art Stand – cmdrpassionproject. It’s a painting Sumiko made of her crush! She wasn’t expecting anyone to see it…
This is a server-side mod, meaning everyone you play with will need to subscribe to it.
Also, it has been irking me since forever that the Traditional Mount Painting[starbounder.org] has a different image offset from the other two paintings of the same style. I did my best to patch the hylotlpainting2.object but even with Arcanecannon’s help, I couldn’t make it work, so we had no choice but to replace the whole file. It makes little to no difference really, but I thought I’d better mention it seeing that everything else in this mod is a patch or new content altogether. Nothing else is replaced, and now all of the paintings line up properly. Hurray.
