Roman Centurion Visual Overhaul
Changes all Roman Centurions to look more like their historical counterparts.
One day I simply got tired of seeing those awful-looking vanilla Centurions and decided to do something about it. I wanted them to look good and authentic, but I also wanted to maintain a certain degree of quality so that they would fit with the rest of the game (if you would like better looking shields / other Roman visual overhauls for vanilla, I suggest taking a look at Celticus’ "Rome II HD" or some other mod altering the Roman Legions and running this mod along with it).
The Centurions that have been changed are:
- Polybian Centurion
- Marian Centurion
- Imperial Centurion
For the Roman Imperial Centurion (shown in the first few images), I edited the "Belt Complex" asset from Total War: ATTILA slightly to fit perfectly with the shape of the Roman Centurion Hamata (otherwise it’d just be levitating over the body, which wouldn’t look good). I also fixed CA’s unused "Imperial Roman Coolus" helmet model to fit the head properly, along with giving it attach points for crests – anyone is free to use that helmet in their own mods.
If you have any further suggestions to improve the Centurions, let me know (preferably via a new topic in the "Discussion" tab) – I’m always looking for more information as to how to improve them to fit their historical counterparts, especially for the Polybian ones. I am thinking of adding better-looking Standard Bearers into this mod later as well and having both a junior + senior variant for both Imperial + Marian Centurions.
Compatible with all mods, even ones that change Centurions; one mod will simply overwrite the other if there is a conflict (whichever mod file has the most "@" symbols is the one that overwrites). Of course, it is also save-game compatible – can be enabled whenever you want since it’s just a graphic change for a unit.
I suggest using this mod in combination with another that affects the visual appearance of the game to match the quality of the Centurions (e.g. ROME II HD by Celticus). Ultimately, it’s up to you.
Special thanks to:
- Celticus – For granting permission to use one of his HD textures for the vanilla Coolus helmet!
- Kaziel – For using his "Polybian Shoulder" asset from his publically released resource pack!
- Glado – For granting permission to all modders to use his fixed Gallic helmet!
And finally, thank you for reading and (hopefully) rating + subscribing! I put a lot of my free time into this, and am glad it’s finally done for all of you to enjoy.
