Description:

A detailed and realistic multistage mission based around an airliner crash in the ocean. Using all the new mechanics in the game, such as emergency beacons, markers are not needed – so you have to actually search for the aircraft. Advanced scripting mechanics add multiple layers to the experience with multiple ways to complete the mission and branching objectives.

Note: Stormworks sometimes has issues when "deloading" vehicles, when you get too far from the vehicle. Once a piece of wreckage has sunk, if you go too far from it, it under some circumstances fall through the world. Where possible, try to secure wreckage before heading too far away

Features
  • Custom mission components
  • No markers – find the locations using ingame technology
  • Handheld ELB tracker included for those who don’t have ELB technology ready
  • Sinking wreckage
  • Multi-stage activities; from fighting fires, searching for people, and recovering wreckage
  • Well-paced, tested, and timed

Activities
  • Locate the airliner using the locator beacon and flight data recorder broadcast information. ELB guides you close, exact GPS and altitude data are broadcast on Composite.
  • Get the fires under control to help save lives.
  • Evacuate passengers and crew.
  • Recover the Flight Data Recorder.
  • Recover the wreckage.

Flight Data Recorder transmission details

The FDR broadcasts an Emergency Beacon that pulses at regular intervals over great range, use this to locate the rough area of the vehicle. Within 1km, you will pick up the FDR itself which will broadcast it’s exact location details via composite data.

The following are the technical specifications for the aircraft’s flight data recorder’s location transmission data.

Dimensions
5 x 2 x 2 (excludes antenna)

Attachment
1 x Electrical Connector

Frequency
1200

Channel 1
GPS X

Channel 2
GPS Y

Channel 3
Altitude

Using the provided ELB Tracker

If your vehicles do not have emergency beacon tracking, you can use the provided ELB Trackers. They are all the same, but located at several airfields for ease of use.

Turn it on and it will use emergency beacon pulses to estimate the current distance to the beacon. The top screen shows this information, with a red light flashing whenever a signal is detected. The time between the pulses is counted, and distance estimated – just like estimating the distance between thunder and lightning.

The bottom screen shows data received from the antenna composite channel on frequency 1200, the frequency the FDR is broadcasting on. This data has limited range (roughly a kilometre). When you are close enough, this screen will populate with GPS data and allow you to get an exact position for recovery of the FDR.

Tracking the FDR yourself

To track the FDR, use the same method as above to get close enough to receive transmitted information from the FDR (roughly a kilometre). The FDR is broadcasting on a composite channel, as listed in the table above. Read these values and you will have the exact location of the FDR.

Known issues

Stormworks deloading issues can mean that, especially in multiplayer, other people do not see the NPCs. Also can result in vehicles falling through the world if they have sunk. To avoid this, it’s best not to go too far from the scene once you have gotten over the initial location. Sometimes saving and reloading actually causes this issue as well.
